Thursday Afternoon: creating space without time.
9 December 1998 | by (Morris Co. New Jersey) – See all my reviews

With MTV pumping out ever more images per second, with Hollywood concerned about quick clips and sound bites, and in the fast-paced post-modern nearly Y2K, Thursday Afternoon offers a break. Antithetical to the philosophy employed by other music film, Brian Eno's presentation is one of near stasis. Images shift with a very slow pace in keeping with the ambient music. The effect is a creation of space without time. This is what Brian Eno has been doing with sound for many years. That he has achieved the same success in the media of film is a testament to the clarity of his vision. The movie can be watched in separate sections of about 15min or in one sitting, the latter being slightly easier with a glass of wine or two.
