Love him or hate him, John Landis is at it again. But he's not talking about how bad monster movies are these days, instead, he's decided to throw some shade towards Lucasfilm for firing directors and writers from the Star Wars movies. The monster movie aficionado is out promoting the latest 3D restoration of Michael Jackson's Thriller, which he said he had a lot of fun doing while mentioning that the estate is "just happy to exploit it and resell it." The veteran director pulls no punches, even when it comes to his family, but he left the best for Lucasfilm.

Venice, Italy – The hotly anticipated 3-D version of the 1983 game-changing “Thriller” short directed by John Landis world-premiered Monday at the Venice Film Festival, where Landis and Michael Jackson estate co-executor John Branca called it a preamble to bigger announcements regarding upcoming Jackson legacy projects.
“Now we have ‘Thriller’ 3-D, and two more announcements are coming up in the next couple of weeks,” Branca said in an interview with Variety, declining to elaborate further. “Michael had an expression: ‘The quality goes in before the name goes on.’ So we are not ready to announce them yet.”
Asked if there may be an album coming of unreleased recordings from the vaults, Branca said: “I don’t foresee us releasing any more unreleased music for quite some time.” But he added: “That doesn’t mean there won’t be interesting [new] record releases in the very near future.”

Michael Jackson's Thriller 3D, long rumored and highly anticipated by fans, will make its world premiere at the 74th Venice Film Festival 2017, announced the Estate of Michael Jackson today. Creating Michael Jackson's Thriller 3D, the original iconic short film, directed by John Landis and written by Landis and Michael Jackson, was not reedited or recut in any way. Rather Optimum Productions brought Landis in and together they supervised an elaborate and labor intensive process that began with the original 35mm film negative from Michael's archives and resulted in a 3D conversion of the acclaimed film using the latest available technology.
To complement the enhanced visuals, all of the audio, including Michael's music, Elmer Bernstein's score and the sound effects, has also been updated to 5.7, 7.1 and Atmos standards in order to create the highest quality audio and visual experience for in theater viewing which is how Michael and Landis intended the film to be enjoyed. »
