10 Images That Prove James Cameron Is Totally Insane

19 December 2014 10:28 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

20th Century Fox

Love or hate his movies, no-one could argue that James Cameron is anything but ambitious. Cameron has directed cinematic classics like The Terminator, Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, along with record-breaking blockbusters such as Titanic and Avatar. Not everything he undertakes turns out to be a critical success, but it’s hard to deny the man’s vision.

Cameron worked as a truck driver in the ’70s, but quit his job after watching the original Star Wars, in order to work in the film industry. He’d become passionate about special effects during his truck driving days, often going to the USC library in order to read papers about film technology.

James Cameron’s very first foray into cinema was a short, low budget film called  Xenogenesis, where he acted as the writer, director and producer. Soon after, he gained a number of jobs as an »

When John learns of a new SkyNet plan to attack him in both the past and the future, he concocts a plot of his own to use terminators in both the past and the future to defeat the… You know what? See Robert Patrick become Terminator 2's T-1000 again on Conan

15 December 2014 4:24 PM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Robert Patrick has once again proven why Terminator 2: Judgment Day's T-1000 is one of the most frightening movie characters of all-time.

The actor reflected on his audition for the 1991 James Cameron movie on Conan, and regaled the audience with the tale of how his intense expression first frightened the director.

It seemed only natural for Conan O'Brien to ask Patrick to re-create the fateful expression that won him the role of the T-1000.

"It's been 25 years," Patrick initially complained, before adding: "That's a lot to ask for! Well, I guess I can do it for you."

After directing the cameraman to film his face "nice and tight", Patrick let loose with his most intimidating T-1000 glare.

"You've still got it," fellow guest Rebecca Romijn declared.

Terminator Genisys: 10 Iconic Moments It Must Revisit

Paramount Pictures

Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Terminator Genisys have a few things in common: they’re all additional entries in hugely successful and established franchises; all three are scheduled for release in 2015; and they all recently debuted trailers that were met with varying degrees of enthusiasm.

The Force Awakens was the undisputed king of the teaser wars, prompting a global media blitz of coverage and an overwhelmingly positive reception. Nostalgic glimpses of Stormtroopers, Tie fighters and the Millennium Falcon fought for screen space with new weaponry, unfamiliar droids and fresh faces, suggesting that J.J. Abrams may have found the right balance between homage and innovation.

The Jurassic World trailer was also generally well received, although some concerns have been raised over hokey dialogue, unfinished CGI and the hybrid dinosaur story choice that could sink or save Colin Trevorrow’s dinosaur adventure. Nevertheless, the prospect of »

The strange history of the Die Hard movies

9 December 2014 5:13 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The Die Hard series may be alive and well, but there's a unique story behind the writing of each one…

As any action fanatic will tell you, Die Hard is among the best films of its type ever made. Tautly directed by John McTiernan, deceptively well shot by cinematographer Jan de Bont, and full of charismatic turns from Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia, it’s seldom been bettered, even by its sequels.

The key to the first film's success, and the sequels in their best moments, is hero John McClane. Tough, sarcastic but ultimately human and relatable, he cuts a very different figure from the beefed-up, larger-than-life heroes of 1980s and 90s action cinema. When John McClane gets shot or injured, he actually feels pain. It's something we were keenly aware of in the 1988 original, but gradually ebbed away as the Die Hard franchise drifted from thriller territory »

The Rise and Spectacular Fall of the Terminator Franchise

Luke Owen looks back at the Terminator franchise…

30 years ago, the brilliant mind and visionary genius of James Cameron gave birth to a cinema icon – Cyberdyne Systems Model 101, the T-800, The Terminator. It was a movie that blended science fiction, action and horror and helped launched the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Terminator was tense, it was thrilling and, above all, it was perfectly executed.

Set in 1984, The Terminator sees bright-eyed and bushy-haired Sarah Conner being targeted for termination by a machine entity called Skynet, a system from the future who have managed to wipe out human existence thanks to its army of Terminator cyborgs. However, there is a human resistance that is rising up – and it looks like they are about to win thanks in part to the leadership of Sarah’s son John. Skynet’s plan is simple: send a Terminator back to a time before John Conner »

Sequels abandoned after the film before them struggled

7 December 2014 12:00 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

From Green Lantern 2 and Terminator: Salvation 2, to a Cat In The Hat sequel and Batman Triumphant: sequels killed by the earlier film...

Earlier this year, it was revealed that a sequel was in the early stages for the new Pierce Brosnan action thriller, The November Man. Remember it? Probably not: The November Man would go on to flop in the Us, grossing just $25m in the Us, and when it finally made it to British cinemas, it was released on just one screen (presumably to fill a contractual obligation somewhere along the line).

There's been no word yet on the fate of The November Man 2, but the outlook does not seem favourable. It wouldn't be the first time though that a sequel had been loudly mooted before even a first film was released, only to be quietly abandoned when something - usually related to box office takings - didn't go to plan. »
