Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

A female alien (that looks a lot like a human woman) near the beginning of the film is wearing a suit that reveals cleavage.

There are references to "pon farr," an every-seven-years period of mating within the Vulcan culture. There are heavy implications in the same scene that the characters "Saavik" and "Spock" are about to engage in sex, but the scene shifts away

Violence & Gore

PG/PG13 space violence.

Two people are shot; one is simply flung back by the impact and the other is completely disintegrated by an energy weapon. Many people die aboard two ships that explode. Some intense hand to hand combat. In one instance, a man is stabbed forcefully in the torso. No blood is shown. Another man is kicked in the face into a lake of lava (very briefly he is seen to flare up from far away).

Son of a B*tch

God's name is misused several times as well

One scene takes place at a bar and it is hinted that two characters are drunk (one character is not drunk, but crazy) the other is actually drunk. Several people drinking in the background.

the Klingon leader kicked in the face and falls into a volcano as he tries to yank Kirk into the fire with him
