Noah Baumbach says Academy Award Best Costume Design winner Ann Roth "has a way of dressing people - that you can't put your finger on." Roth won for Anthony Minghella's The English Patient, starring Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche, Willem Dafoe and Kristin Scott Thomas and is a BAFTA honoree for John Schlesinger's The Day Of The Locust, which starred Donald Sutherland, Karen Black and Burgess Meredith. Roth also received Oscar nominations for her work on Robert Benton's Places In The Heart and again with Minghella for The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Noah's 2012 film, Frances Ha, with Greta Gerwig, Mickey Sumner and Adam Driver, had no costume designer credit, although Sumner's godmother is famed costume designer Colleen Atwood. »

Distributors Hot for Sally Field’s ‘My Name is Doris’ (Exclusive)

The SXSW Film Festival isn’t a venue that normally inspires bidding wars or debuts Oscar contenders. But “Hello, My Name is Doris,” a dramedy starring Sally Field that landed the festival’s audience award in the headliners category, has proven to be an exception.

The Orchard, a relatively new player in the movie business (which picked up “The Overnight” at Sundance), has raised the stakes with a seven-figure offer. Starz is also circling the project, and there’s a proposal from Roadside Attractions to take the domestic rights with Sony Pictures handling the foreign rollout. Although some major distributors are not interested—such as the Weinstein Co. and Fox Searchlight—the filmmakers are fielding other offers too, according to an insider. »

No, Ed Harris, did not throw a chair at Marcia Gay Harden while filming “Pollock,” he wants you to know.

“I didn’t throw it at her,” he says of the Hollywood urban myth. “I smashed it on the ground. She wasn’t quite getting to the point that she needed to and we had a really good relationship and it just got her adrenaline flowing and helped her out a little bit.”

Whether it was the flying furniture that prodded her along or his directorial savvy, Harris’ instinct was spot-on. The actor-cum-helmer of the 2000 biopic helped to propel Harden toward an Oscar for her supporting role as Lee Krasner, the acclaimed painter and long-suffering wife of abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock, who tragically died in a drunken driving accident. Harris, who will receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 13, the same day his latest film “Run All Night »
