Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: Us Blu-ray Disc in March 2011

21 November 2010 7:17 AM, PST | Affenheimtheater | See recent Affenheimtheater news »

Us fans of Studio Ghibli rejoice! Walter Disney He announced to finally bring Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to North America on Blu-ray Disc on March 8, 2011.

The 1984 masterpiece is already available on Blu-ray Disc in Japan, UK and Australia. While latter ones are locked to Region B (confirmed for the UK disc, but I bet Madman will use the same for their Australian release), the amazing Japanese release is region free but could put many fans off because of its high price. So the upcoming Us Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack with the following features and temporary specs should please most region A buyers. Hopefully Disney will add a losless Japanese audio track this time…

Bonus features:

NAUSICAÄ BluRay Review

8 November 2010 4:34 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

I love BluRay.

I really do.

I used to love DVD back in the day and still like it a lot, but seeing an old classic like "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" in this high a definition is like seeing it for the first time again. Of course this film never made it anywhere near a Dutch cinema back in the eighties so I only knew it from DVD, and never had any idea how sharp and detailed this film had looked upon theatrical release. Well, that has changed and I Sure can make an educated guess now!

Because last month, Optimum in the United Kingdom released a BluRay edition of "Nausicaä". It's totally English-friendly but Region B locked, meaning only regionfree players and players in Europe, Africa and Australia-New Zealand can use this disc. There was a previous English-friendly BluRay edition released in Japan earlier this year »

This week's new DVD & Blu-ray

Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind

DVD & Blu-Ray, Optimum

In the west we only really discovered animation master Hayao Miyazaki well into his career when 2001's Spirited Away was chaperoned into cinemas by Pixar's helpful John Lasseter. If anything, playing catch up with his work means there's a wealth of previous works waiting to be uncovered by newer converts. While it proudly bears the Studio Ghibli banner, this stunning 1984 classic was actually produced before the studio's creation; the team went on to form the famed imprint shortly after this hit big at the Japanese box office. Miyazaki had directed before, but he'd been adapting the work of other writers or writing and drawing for other directors. Here he had to first create this ecologically minded, science fiction fantasy tale as a comic book to generate enough interest to get the film version off the ground. Set in a feudal, »

Have Your Say: about those Japanese Ghibli BluRays...

10 September 2010 7:49 PM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

On the picture here you can see the Very stylish covers for the new BluRays which Studio Ghibli is releasing in Japan. That's "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" on the left, "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" in the middle and "My Neighbors the Yamadas" on the right.

It's a pretty simple format which emphasizes just how classic these films truly are: one color and one white silhouette are enough to describe a title and have it recognized by the fans.

Now this begs the question: which titles will be in the next wave which Studio Ghibli and Disney will be releasing in 2011? And what will the covers for those titles look like, if they keep this single-color-white-silhouette format?

So let's play a little game here...

Which title do you want released first (after "My Neighbors the Yamadas"), what color should its cover be, and what should be used for the white silhouette? »

A Hayao Miyazaki Classic to receive Blu-Ray release in the UK

8 August 2010 1:55 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Studio Ghibli recently announced that they will be re-releasing the Hayao Miyazaki classic film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, on Blu-Ray no less, in the UK this October.

Released in the U.S. in 1985 under the title Warriors of the Wind, Nausicaa is set in a post apocalyptic world covered in toxins following the adventures of Princess Nausicaa as she seeks to find the origin of the toxins that strangle the world she lives in. Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, now the president of Ghibli Studios, the film went on to win numerous awards, the most notable being the Animage Anime Grand Prix Award in 1984.

After twenty-six years of popularity, Studio Ghibli will be releasing the Blu-Ray edition of Nausicaa in the UK on October 18th and in Australia sometime in November. Being a fan of all Miyazaki films, I’m ecstatic to see this classic hitting »

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: UK Blu-ray Disc in October

6 August 2010 1:27 AM, PDT | Affenheimtheater | See recent Affenheimtheater news »

Good news for those who don’t want to import the beautiful but pretty expensive Blu-ray Disc release of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind from Japan. Today Optimum announced to release Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece on Blu-ray Disc in the UK on Oktober 18th.

Hopefully they will also offer a limited deluxe set like they did for Ponyo. Knowing Optimum, the release will probably be locked to Region B. Madman Entertainment has announced to release the film in Australia in November, but it will probably be a 1:1 copy of the UK release. So far Disney hasn’t announced anything for the Us market…

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind on Blu-ray Disc confirmed for July!

24 March 2010 9:27 AM, PDT | Affenheimtheater | See recent Affenheimtheater news »

After some rumors and disappearing items, Av Watch has some great news for Studio Ghibli fans hungry for more anime masterworks in high definition.

The article confirms the reports made back in February that Hayao Miyazaki’s 1984 classic Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind will be the studio’s second title to get a Blu-ray Disc release after Ponyo and mentions July 14th as the Japanese release date. It also shows us the (probably temporary) cover art for the release but doesn’t mention anything about included audio tracks or subtitles. I guess (and pray) Studio Ghibli will stick to its own principles and include a wide variety of subtitles just like they did on their Ponyo Bd and their numerous DVD releases in the past.

Nausicaa.net features an English translation of the introduction from Toshio Suzuki. »

Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is coming to Blu-ray Disc in Summer 2010!

19 February 2010 8:17 AM, PST | Affenheimtheater | See recent Affenheimtheater news »

wheeee! While I could just update the yesterday’s article regarding this topic, I thought that this piece of news just deserves its own little entry. During an HDTV broadcast of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind it was announced that Hayao Miyazaki’s 1984 masterpiece will be released on Blu-ray Disc in Japan this summer!

To give you a small hint of what at least to expect from those releases, check out these HD screenshots from the Joe Hisaishi in Budokan – Miyazaki Anime to Tomo ni Ayunda 25 Nenkan Blu-ray Disc. But I sure hope Disney Home Entertainment will use better source material for their upcoming releases.

Views: Miyazaki's “Kaze no Tani no Naushika” / Nausicaa Of The Valley of The Wind

16 February 2010 3:38 AM, PST | doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news »

Creating amazing believable worlds is something Hayao Miyazaki was born to do… He is the right artist for the right time.

In 1984, just one year before I was born, he created a world that I want to share with all of you. He released “Kaze no Tani no Naushika” (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind), which was the first cartoon movie I ever saw in my life. This world is deadly. If you would take out your breathing mask, your lungs would collapse in 20 seconds due to the toxic air.   Why is the air so fatal? Because centuries ago there was a humongous industrial society and a war that engulfed the entire planet in flames. A “Spore Forest” evolved to consume the world, and for centuries mankind wrongfully blamed the forest for turning the atmosphere unbreathable. (I won’t spoil the mystery here)   As I have said on my previous post, »
