Sex & Nudity

A woman appears to be nude, covering her body with package paper.

During the climatic family brawl, there are a few disturbing scenes involving attempted incest. However, nothing really happens as the family basically gets back to fighting

Violence & Gore

A man hits a boy's face with a small ball. The boy cries for a moment.

A boy is dropping a sharp object, making his leg to bleed.

A man tries to exterminate a whole white ants nest with methods like spraying and fire. We later learn that all of the ants got killed.

A girl attempts to take suicide by trying to hang herself, but gets prevented from doing it.

Characters yell and scream.

A boy faints.

A man attempts to kill the whole family with poisoned coffee.

A boy hits his wall against a wall, with little blood visible.

A man tells an another man about having killed many guerillas while he was a soldier.

The following scenes are pretty violent, as family members hit each other, and even attack each other with various objects, trying to kill each other.

There is a very disturbing scene involving a man holding a knife in front of a tied girl (see Frightening/Intense Scenes).


Characters swearing, and calling each other with various insulting words. It's all uttered in Japanese.

The Kobayashi family becomes crazier and crazier the later the viewer get into the movie, hence the English title "The Crazy Family".

Suicide attempts.

Despite being a Drama-Comedy movie, the scene where a knife-wielding man threatens to rape his 13 year old granddaughter is very disturbing. However, nothing happens as the family gets back to fighting.
