Footloose (1984) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Lengthy scene of locker room showering with male nudity shown from behind in the background of a discussion between Willard (Christopher Penn) and Ren (Kevin Bacon). There are also a couple of shots containing pubic hair in the guys' shower.

A hand gesture is made that resembles masturbation.

Violence & Gore

Several fistfights and/or barfights occur in the film, including one in which Willard (Christopher Penn) receives a very bloody nose.

One intense scene in which Ariel (Lori Singer) is beaten repeatedly by her ex-boyfriend. She is shown with a bloodied mouth and a black eye.

Profanity

Multiple instances of profane language among the teenage protagonists, including "shit," "asshole," "douchebag," and "son of a bitch".

Teenager Ren (Kevin Bacon) is shown blowing off his frustration by smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer.

The four main characters, Ariel, Ren, Willard and Rusty (Lori Singer, Kevin Bacon, Christopher Penn and Sarah Jessica Parker), go to a bar and drink alcohol. Willard, particularly, drinks many beers and is shown smoking a cigarette.

One student at Ren's school offers him a joint, as a "free sample," and offers to sell him more. Ren flushes it down a toilet to avoid a teacher's questions, referring to the cost of the drug as he does so.

Intense scene of violence between Ariel and her ex-boyfriend, with both characters fighting, kicking and cursing each other, and Ariel ends up so beaten that she cannot stand.

Ariel stands with her feet on two cars, with truck coming the other way.

Ren is driving some people at night and then they cross the same bridge where the fatal accident occurred that got music and dancing band. As the locals tell the story of the accident and their reaction to the incident, the atmosphere suggest they are about to have an accident themselves, but they cross without incident.
