Bizarre little documentary about a bizarre little man is worth a look (if you can find it).
4 December 1998 | by (North Thailand) – See all my reviews

Insightful documentary about novelist William S. Burroughs (Naked Lunch) should appeal to his devotees to a greater extent than the rest of us. Nonetheless, it's odd and revealing in much the way CRUMB is, and strangely compelling. Perhaps it could have used a little more depth, but it is quite open in its handling of "taboo" subjects such as Burrough's homosexuality, the murder of his wife in Mexico, and his renowned drug use. The documentary footage (i.e. interviews with Burroughs and his family, friends) is intertwined with staged "dream sequences" - one particularly bloody one involves the ever-mumbling Burroughs performing surgery. All in all, intriguing and worth seeing - though it's very difficult to find. Look for future indie film icons Jim Jarmusch and Tom DiCillo as crew in the credits.
