Live at the Foxes Den's heart is certainly in the right place, but its content is culled from so many different movies that it seems the end product of a particularly unfocused pitch meeting.
Director and co-writer Michael Kristoff borrows a little from All of Me (a ladder-climbing attorney dating the boss's snooty daughter secretly yearns to be a jazz musician), a little from various John Grisham works (a defense lawyer for a greedy firm has a crisis of conscience), and most obviously from The Fabulous Baker Boys.
Only this time, instead of a sexy chanteuse striving to save a hardened, alcoholic lounge pianist from self-destruction, the would-be savior is the aforementioned lawyer, Bobby Kelly (the Twilight series' Jackson Rathbone). Bobby d »

It's here: For the first time this season on The Voice, the power is truly in America's hands. There are no judges' steals or saves. Viewer votes alone will decide the fate of the top 12 contestants. Based on those votes, two will be eliminated – no matter which team they're on. (Although it was revealed that for the first time ever, viewers will have an insta-save, where live-tweeting will pull one contestant back from the brink.)
Separating the wheat from the chaff is the primary goal now, and some coaches are better at it than others. »
The top 12 artists brought a new fight to The Voice stage Monday, turning it up with showmanship and song choices that highlighted their musical versatility. But it was Matthew Schuler's night for Team Christina Aguilera. The 20-year-old from Yardley, Pa., brought church to the stage with his emotional take on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." The son and grandson of ministers, Schuler offered a passionate tribute to his gospel roots that left his mother - watching from the audience - in tears and his coach praising his follow-through on her advice to "be fearless." "There is something so magical and »

With double eliminations each week, the remaining singers push their vocal boundaries to make it through to the top 10.
The Voice has always been a show of upsets -- not necessarily because the wrong singers are eliminated too early, but because so many singers are sent home every week in general. America said goodbye to a whopping eight singers on Thursday night, and nearly every upcoming week until the finals will rid the competition of two singers, regardless of whose team they’re from. That means any of the coaches -- Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine – could be out of the running as early as next week.

Prediction: Tuesday night’s installment of The Voice will be as painful as cardboard paper cut, as unpopular as the words “Paris Hilton’s pop-culture comeback” and as unwelcome as the “shot through some sorority chick’s ‘heart fingers’” camera angle employed during Matthew Schuler’s Top 12 performance of “Hallelujah.”
Believe it or not, I mean this in no way as an insult to NBC’s juggernaut singing competition. It’s just that, with not a single singer bellyflopping into the very deep talent pool Monday night, the prospect of two impending eliminations seems somehow illegal, or at the very least heartbreaking. »

The Voice‘s top 12 contestants took the stage Nov. 11 for a live face-off of epic proportions — and no, I’m not just saying that because Matt Lauer was in attendance. It really was a huge episode full of incredible talent, but only one singer received a standing ovation from all four coaches: Team Blake’s Cole Vosbury! The bearded powerhouse took a huge risk performing Miguel‘s “Adorn,” but his gamble totally paid off in the end.
‘The Voice’ Top 12: Who Else Shone Bright?
Caroline Pennell was first on the stage, and she set the bar pretty high with her crowd-pleasing — no, she literally walked into the crowd at one point — performance of “Wake Me Up.” Even Blake Shelton had to tip his (metaphorical) hat to Caroline, »

Austin Film Festival ended last week, but the news flashes aren't over yet. The 2013 Audience Award winners were announced Monday and include a few with Austin/Texas connections -- most notably All of Me, an Austin-based documentary, and Sombras de Azul, which was written and directed by Austin filmmaker Kelly Daniela Norris.
The Marquee Feature Award went to Tommy Oliver's family drama 1982, and the Narrative Feature pick Beside Still Waters was also a Jury Award winner. Directed and co-written by Chris Lowell, this ensemble piece explores heavy themes using humor and heart. Many Audience Award winners from past years have gone on to more widespread attention and acclaim, including Silver Linings Playbook, Spinning Plates and 2011's The Artist.

Exuberantly silly, “Remington and the Curse of the Zombadings” sends up Filipino horror, romance, gaysploitation and other genre cliches in service of a pro-tolerance message. Despite that message, there’s very little political correctitude to be found here, and the willingness to ridicule everyone lends Jade Castro’s comedy a contrary, disarming guilelessness, suggesting only churls (of any political/sexual/moral persuasion) could be so humorless as to take actual offense. Released on home turf over two years ago, the pic has been kicking around festivals and elsewhere since, with recent limited U.S. theatrical launch raising visibility for a niche home-format release.
As a child, Remington (Mart Escudero) made incessant fun of ”homos,” running around yelling “”Ay! Bakla! Bakla! Bakla!” at practically anyone, including the parish priest. One day he ridiculed the wrong cross-dressing queen (Roderick Paulate, who’s played such roles for over a quarter-century), who cursed him with, »

The news of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian‘s engagement continues to affect our daily lives, and it’s only been 48 hours. Given the vastness of Yeezy’s Jumbotron proposal, the couple’s actual wedding day is likely to be anything but quiet.
We’ve already started crossing certain celebrities off the guest list and designing Kim’s dream gown. But when it comes to the where, when, and how, there’s still a lot for the E! producers to plan the couple to reveal.
1. Will it be in Chicago, L.A., or…?
According to our friends at The Gossip Table, Kanye wants a three-day event in Paris, France. Oui? The city has played an important role in the couple’s love story, but it’s no Old Town Calabasas.
2. Will Bruce Jenner attend?

Jennifer Hudson went to some dark places to score the Oscar for her debut performance in "Dreamgirls," but none darker than the ones she plunges into in the gritty indie "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete," out today in select theaters. In George Tillman Jr.'s drama, Hudson plays Gloria, a heroin-using single mother, who prostitutes to get by. When she gets taken away by authorities, her son Mister (Skylan Brooks) and his friend Pete (Ethan Dizon), who also comes from a damaged home, go into hiding. Hudson called up Indiewire to discuss the challenging role, and why she still feels insecure about acting despite having won an Oscar. As Gloria, you go to some pretty incredibly dark places with the character. Was any part of you was scared to take on the role? All of me was afraid to take on the role. I literally was terrified all »
