Former major-leaguer Tony Micelli and his daughter Samantha arrive at the Connecticut household of executive Angela Bower, where Tony has taken a job as live-in housekeeper. The Bowers are an interesting family, to say the least. Angela is uptight and obsessed with her work. Her son Jonathan is shy and lacks self-esteem, and her mother, Mona, is a man-hungry vixen. Tony soon wins them over with his laid-back style, and the Bowers soon begin to loosen up. Over time, romantic tensions begin to surface between Angela and Tony, and we see the children grow up. Did You Know?
German network RTL showed a German version of the show called Ein Job für's Leben
(1993) ("A Life-Time Job"). The scripts and every single joke of the original's 1984-1985 season were translated, but it was canceled after one season. "Ein Job für's Leben" was preceded by a British version, The Upper Hand
(1990), starring Honor Blackman
, which fared somewhat better despite also being a direct translation instead of an adaptation or reinvention. It was canceled in 1996. See more
But here's the thing... Uhm... Did I ever tell you how terrific you are and how happy I am with this job?
I feel a "but" coming on.
Nonono, no buts. HOWEVER...
