10 things we learned about Godzilla from Gareth Edwards

Top 10 Ryan Lambie 4 Mar 2014 - 05:53

Last week, director Gareth Edwards spoke about his forthcoming Godzilla movie in a lengthy Q&A. Here's what we've learned...

Nb: While the below is spoiler-free, do avoid reading further if you’d prefer to see the final film absolutely cold.

Showing off 20 minutes of your forthcoming summer movie before it's even finished could, in theory, be a risky move. Yet Warner Bros and Legendary clearly have confidence in director Gareth Edwards' forthcoming Godzilla, and when we'd finished seeing some snippets of footage from his monster movie reboot, we were also confident that the full film will be worthy of the creature's status as cinema's King of the Monsters.

Godzilla Roars Back to Life on Screen – Footage Preview Report & Q&A With Director Gareth Edwards

1 March 2014 9:29 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

As the cinematic calendar gears up for the (now extended) summer season of Hollywood box office big-hitters, there’s one film on the way which has already caught the collective enthusiasm of genre fans. Yesterday we joined a packed and very excited screening room at The Mayfair to view footage from the film, with Edwards himself in attendance. This is the first Hollywood feature for the director, following his hugely-praised sci-fi/social commentary infused 2010 debut, Monsters. Packing the kind of budget which would have paid for that prior production several thousand times over,

Godzilla is a huge leap for Edwards, although judging by his fun and good-natured demeanour, it’s clear he wasn’t overly fazed by the experience. »

We’ve Just Seen Some Of Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla: Here’s Our Reaction

28 February 2014 7:46 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Gareth EdwardsGodzilla has been dangled and teased before us for a couple of years now. At Comic-Con 2012, Edwards presented a mood piece featuring some CGI-heavy footage, mainly featuring the battered remains of a nameless city with massive holes in buildings, debris everywhere, and a shadow of a seemingly dark creature behind a clouded misty haze. The footage was not screened anywhere else, but had the crowds in that exhibition hall, on that particular hot summer’s day in southern California, literally jumping for joy with the expectation of something magnificent. Then, a year later in the very same hall, to probably, the very same audience at the same event in San Diego, we caught glimpse of a lot more; Edwards a little more comforatble, and now smiling and teasing us again with actually footage from a film that was nearing wrap on a lengthy shooting schedule. It was coming together, »
