Chicago – The wonderful bonus of the Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show is the opportunity to meet the real stars of past film eras. Ernest Borgnine and Bruce Dern were there during the show in March of this year.
Both actors carved out character careers during the period of the 1950s to the present. They have often explored the cowboy genre, and each starred opposite some legendary movie gunslingers. Ernest Borgnine appeared in one of the greatest westerns of all time, “The Wild Bunch” (1969). Bruce Dern starred opposite John Wayne in “The Cowboys” (1972).
The Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show is a biannual event that brings celebrities to Chicago to meet, sign autographs and interact with their admirers. Hosts Ray and Sharon Court announced at the March show that the upcoming October show would be their last, as they are retiring.

The Steve Carell comedy Burt Wonderstone follows the actor's magician character as his place is usurped by a younger magic-maker and he struggles to reclaim his love for the dark arts. So, basically The Prestige meets Hooper with that guy from The Dana Carvey Show.
More information about the flick has recently come out as Deadline is reporting that New Line has tapped television veteran Don Scardino to come on as the film's director. Scardino has worked on a number of shows, including Cosby, Tracy Takes On... and Law & Order, but he is probably best known for his time spent on 30 Rock.
Imagine this, but even more magical.
Burt Wonderstone was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who are also the scribes behind the upcoming Horrible Bosses. No word yet, on who will play the younger rival magician, but if they want to take a lesson from Hooper (and really, »

The fantasy genre has gotten a bad rep over the years and I think I know why. Too many factions of role players, larpers and W.O.W-ers have joined forces over the world wide web to become this massive, unstoppable goliath of an easy target. What was once little groups of in-the-know outcasts playing Magic in highschool hallways is so visible that they've turned it into an easy punchline for bad comedians and films like Role Models or Your Highness to take a stab at. But That's just my theory.
The other downside to fantasy's perceived dorkery is I think it's led to a slowing down of mainstream fantasy film production and the films that do get made that fully embrace their fantasy roots either get savages by critics or dumped onto SyFy. Lord of the Rings is really the only series of films I can think of that got through unscathed. »

In 1984 the Cold War continued to dominate the headlines. Soviet-American relations remained tense and films such as Wargames and Red Dawn reflected the mood of the time. On television another war was raging, a war between two heavily armed helicopters. One was a top secret military experiment, the other a state of the art crime fighting police chopper. Airwolf and Blue Thunder were so similar that only one could survive in the ratings war.
Blue Thunder had an advantage; the brand had already been established the year before in director John Badham’s feature film of the same name starring Roy Scheider and Malcolm McDowell. Scheider played police pilot Frank Murphy assigned to patrol the skies of La in experimental helicopter, Blue Thunder. The film was a solid action thriller and fared well enough at the box office to warrant a spin-off television series of its own on the ABC network. »

The Screen Actors Guild honored Ernest Borgnine with its Life Achievement Award - and he honored the acting profession right back. "There are millions of those around the world who would love to be in our shoes," Borgnine, 94, told the crowd in L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium, after Morgan Freeman presented him his award. At 94 the legendary Ernest Borgnine doesn't want to be called "Mr. Borgnine," preferring "Ernest" or even "Ernie." Speaking in his signature gravelly voice, Borgnine is matter-of-fact about his achievements, still delighted and slightly awed that he has been able to make his living doing what he loves most: acting. He continues to be enthralled with movies, though he is no admirer of much of what is produced today and is dismissive about acting methods. "I learned to act by just sitting on a park bench and watching people go by," he says. "I follow what the author has written and take it from there. I don't have a method. You work with your head and your heart and then you create a character."Whatever his method—or perhaps more precisely, non-method—it has worked for him. For more than six decades, the Oscar winner has rolled up more than 200 movie and TV credits, »

Here's a treat for all you action fans fed up of anaemic 12-rated fantasy violence: a red band trailer for The Mechanic, starring Jason Statham as the super-expert hitman who "does assignments, designated targets..." You'll know by now that The Mechanic is a remake of Michael Winner's 1972 Charles Bronson vehicle, about an elite assassin who finds himself training the son of one of his victims, with troublesome consequences. The Stath is in the Bronson role obviously, and the noob this time around (it was Airwolf's Jan-Michael Vincent before) is Ben Foster, with Donald Sutherland also on hand as Mr Foster Sr.The film was shot some time ago, and we've seen a couple of previous trailers while it's been sitting on the shelf waiting for its release date. With that happy day finally almost upon us though, this is the first clip to really get us rubbing »
