Storyline

René Artois runs a small café in France during World War II. He always seems to have his hands full: He's having affairs with most of his waitresses, he's keeping his wife happy, he's trying to please the German soldiers who frequent his café, and he's running a major underground operation for the Resistance. Quite often, the Germans' incompetence itself is what nearly lands René and his cohorts in hot water; they are not helped either by the locals, who are dreadfully keen to get rid of the Germans, but their blatant and theatrical attempts at espionage and secrecy often create problems that René must solve quickly. User Reviews

Simply one of the best!
20 June 2002 | by (New Jersey) – See all my reviews

There are few TV comedy shows that I can watch the same episodes repeatedly and still enjoy them as much as I did the first time. The US show Seinfeld, and the British import Faulty Towers are two of these. Allo, Allo! ranks with those as the three best. Zany and insane are mild ways of describing this slapstick and very entertaining comedy. You can genuinely fall in love with its silly characters, even the evil Herr Flick. I can't wait for another run of episodes on PBS. Thank you UK and Croft.
