Why Are We Compelled to Rank Movies in a Series with Each New Release?

15 April 2017 10:27 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

It’s not enough to love films, we now must enumerate that love or hate relative to any similar films.

It has become a familiar ritual — the latest release in a franchise or a noted director’s canon spawns more than one site to run a “The Films of ___________, Ranked” article. We’ve done this dance with the Marvel movies since At Least 2012 when The Avengers came out, and no doubt someone is at this very moment preparing a ranking of the 14 previous films in the McU to accompany the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Wonder Woman will likely spur on a ranking of all the DC Films, and we saw just in the past week where everyone stood on the existing Fast & Furious movies.

And yes, I got into the act with my own “The Films of Assistant Director Frank Capra III, Ranked.” Hopefully the point was made.

Like me, I’m sure many of you Batfans out there were nothing short of ecstatic upon hearing the news that a Nightwing movie is in the works, and is to be directed by Chris McKay, the same mind behind The Lego Batman Movie.

Although there’s been no timeline given as to when the first solo big screen outing starring Batman’s original apprentice will hit theaters, that hasn’t stopped anyone from speculating who will land the big role, with rabid fans putting their support behind the likes of Zac Efron and Jared Padalecki, to name a few. Personally, I’ve long advocated the latter to take up this persona, but realistically, his Supernatural shooting schedule might prohibit him from taking the part. »

Netflix Is Purging a Ton of TV in April

22 March 2017 9:05 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

The time has come. Netflix has announced the titles it's pulling from its catalog in April, and it's a staggering list. There are a handful of movies leaving, but it's really the TV shows that have us devastated. Multiple seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones, House, M.D., and Ally McBeal will all disappear into the night. At least there are new shows and movies coming to comfort us, but this is still pretty depressing. Expiring April 1 Ally McBeal, seasons one to five Angel, seasons one to five Better Off Ted, season one Barbershop 2: Back in Business Bones, seasons one to four Buffy the Vampire Slayer, seasons one to seven Chaplin Dollhouse, season one Ferris Bueller's Day Off Firefly House, M.D., seasons one to eight Lie to Me, season one Menace II Society Resident Evil: Extinction Rosewell, seasons one to three Snow Day Stomp the Yard Superman II »

Conversation Takes a Creepy Turn in New Clip from We Go On

A woman who can supposedly see the dead gets legitimately spooked in a new clip from the supernatural film We Go On, coming to Blu-ray and DVD on April 4th from Lightyear Entertainment.

You can watch the new clip below, and, in case you missed it, check out my Q&A with We Go On filmmakers Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton.

From the Press Release: "After riveting festival audiences around the world, the chilling We Go On, is coming to home video this spring. The critically acclaimed thriller, which Fangoria declared as “legitimately scary and unpredictable” and Ain’t It Cool News called “a spooky tale with a strong emotional core,” debuts on Blu-ray & DVD on April 4, 2017 from Lightyear Entertainment, through Momentum Pictures/Sony Home Entertainment. Special features on both formats include Directors’ Commentary.

Logan Review

17 February 2017 1:29 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Jon Lyus

From the first scene, from the very first word in fact, it is clear that Logan is far from just another comic book movie. It may be the latest X-Men film to the fans but James Mangold and Hugh Jackman have created something distinct and different. We saw hints of what they wanted to achieve in their 2013 film The Wolverine but Logan is purposefully named. The raw narrative drive and the unrelenting violence make a solid foundation for a new type of Wolverine movie. This is not your comic book hero come to life, this is real life with all the pain and pathos that comes with it.

Logan is a very different beast. It shrinks its focus to a fine point, it collapses the worldwide grab of its superhero brethren to an almost claustrophobic hold. This film is less about saving the world, and far more about saving yourself. »

Supergirl Round Table: Can Lena be Trusted?

17 February 2017 6:00 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Lena plays chess, and she's good at it, but does that mean Kara is just a pawn in her overall scheme?

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 12 left a lot open to interpretation!

Join TV Fanatics Steven Ford, Kathleen Wiedel, Jim Garner, and Yana Grebenyuk as they discuss Lena's back story, the synthesized kryptonite, and the appearance of Mr. Mxyzptlk.

What did you think of the flashbacks and learning Lena is a Luthor by blood?

Steve: First off, let me just say that I'm super glad that we're bringing Lena back into the fold. I've been waiting to dive deeper into her story and relationship with her mother. As far as the flashbacks go, I rather enjoyed them as they are far and few between in this series and is refreshing when they do appear.

I'm a fan of Arrow and flashbacks are a staple of that series, and while the flashback this season are much improved, »
