George Lucas has seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and “really liked the movie”

22 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We’re less than a fortnight away from the next instalment of the Star Wars saga, and it seems that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story already has its first positive review – from Star Wars creator George Lucas, no less!

Speaking during a Lucasfilm press conference for the movie, director Gareth Edwards revealed that Lucas say the movie “two days ago” and that “I can die happy now. He really liked the movie. It was the most important review to me.”

Now of course, we probably shouldn’t expect Lucas to come out at this point and say he hates the movie, but he did criticise Star Wars: The Force Awakens for its “retro” tone – although that might have been because Disney and Lucasfilm earlier rejected his own ideas for the Sequel Trilogy.

Can we all just admit Star Wars: The Force Awakens was kind of terrible?

Anghus Houvouras on Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I’m excited about Rogue One. More so than any other Star Wars film that has been released since Return of the Jedi in 1983. I doubt anyone needs another sentence devoted to the dreadful prequels. The internet is currently composed of 18% meme, 42% pornography, 21% food photos, and 19% Star Wars prequel analysis. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, however, is still rummaging around our collective pop culture consciousness and if you’re like me it isn’t faring very well.

Criticizing a cultural phenomenon like Star Wars is an interesting experience because fans are forgiving to a fault. Applying actual criticism to a Star Wars movie is like trying to critique a time machine that transports people back to magical moments of their childhood. It’s like trying to Indian leg wrestle Terry Crews: You’re not going to win—and not just because »

Is Rey Based on the Star Wars Droids Animated TV Show?

1 December 2016 3:13 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It's probably just a coincidence. But in the old Star Wars Droids animated series, which debuted two years after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, there are two characters that hold a few similarities to both Rey and Kylo Ren. As we know, these two, who could be blood related, are fresh to the Star Wars canon. And in a sequel that had more than its fair share of callbacks, many believed these two to be wholly original. Well, that may or may not be the cast.

The Mr. Sunday Movies Youtube Channel has just released another episode of their Caravan of Garbage series. The show focuses on old things that are pretty much terrible. And this month they are focusing on Star Wars related media in celebration of Rogue One hitting theaters in a few weeks. Their first order of business is the 1985 animated series Droids, which debuted on »

Decades After Tim Burton's 'Batman,' Billy Dee Williams Will Finally Become Two-Face

1 December 2016 1:30 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

In a career that dates back to 1959, Billy Dee Williams has appeared in dozens of films and television shows. He first made his mark starring opposite James Caan in the tearjerking TV movie Brian's Song and he followed that up by starring opposite Diana Ross in Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany. Williams really hit the big time, though, when he costarred as Han Solo's roguish old buddy Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. The role cemented Williams' place in the unofficial geek hall of fame, a position that was strengthened when he appeared in Tim Burton's Batman as Harvey Dent (pictured above). The character has a long history In DC comic books. His origin has been changed several...

Alan Tudyk talks Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s K-2So, hopeful for future appearances

1 December 2016 12:32 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

One of the biggest standouts from the marketing for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been K-2So, voiced by Firefly alum Alan Tudyk. The tall, intimidating Imperial-turned-Rebel security droid has a lot to live up to considering the tremendous popularity of past Star Wars characters like C-3Po, R2-D2 and Bb-8, but has already become one of the upcoming film’s most intriguing characters.

In a new interview with THR, Tudyk talks a bit about playing the character, whether or not he felt any pressure to make his droid distinctive, and if we’ll see K-2So again, despite the fact that Rogue One won’t have a sequel.

Tudyk didn’t just voice K-2So, but was actually present during the filming and played the character via motion capture. He feels that this gave him an edge performance wise, and meant that he’d avoid becoming the »

Rogue One Reshoots Resulted in New Ending, Writer Nabs Big Payday

30 November 2016 1:12 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

There are always a slew of rumors swirling around any Star Wars movie, but back in May, one such rumor claimed that the first Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One, was in "trouble," as the studio prepared for supposedly "extensive" reshoots. Stars such as Felicity Jones laughed off the rumors, reassuring fans the project wasn't in "trouble". It was revealed that Tony Gilroy, who wrote the original Jason Bourne trilogy, came aboard to rewrite the script during reshoots, while also serving as the second unit director. Today a new report has surfaced that claims the filmmaker will be handsomely paid for his efforts, to the tune of $5 million.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Tony Gilroy was first paid a sum of $200,000 a week to help write new dialogue and scenes for the Rogue One reshoots. That sum is said to be a "normal figure" for an in-demand writer working on a major studio tentpole film. »

‘Rogue One’ Won’t Screen in Time for Critics’ Awards: Is There Something Wrong With This Picture?

30 November 2016 12:26 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

I am not a “Star Wars” person. Which doesn’t mean that I don’t like “Star Wars.” I saw the original movie (one that I refuse, now and forever, to call “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope”) on the day it opened in 1977, and I thought it was enthralling. Three years later, I saw “The Empire Strikes Back” on the day it opened, and I found it even more enthralling. (By the time I saw “Return of the Jedi,” I was a professional critic and watched it at a preview, and…well, we all know how well that movie worked out on the enthrallment scale. Not so much.)

I’ve seen “Star Wars” and “The Empire Strikes Back” four or five times apiece since then, and have continued to relish them, but the whole fan-geek metasphere of “Star Wars” means nothing to me. I have never been obsessed with its universe, »

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Buzz: Sequel News and a Major Social Media Event

30 November 2016 12:00 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story launching into theaters soon, anticipation is already riding high on how, exactly, the film will conclude. After all, the official premise of the movie is that a newly-assembled team of rebels are assigned to steal the secret plans for the Death Star. Since we've all seen Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which begins with those plans safely in the hands of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), we assume the mission will be successful, but what about the team of thieving rebels? Who will survive? Could a sequel be made, perhaps depicting the team carrying out other dangerous, secret missions against the backdrop of events taking place in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi? That might...

That's a wrap! In just over two weeks, many of us will be sitting in a movie theater watching a brand new Star Wars movie. Now, after months of rumors, set photos, trailers, reshoots and anticipation, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has officially wrapped post-production, meaning the movie is totally and completely done.
