Storyline

This after-school special is a short, to the point message to teens about drunk driving and its consequences. With a cast of talented actors "before they were stars," such as Mare Winningham, Val Kilmer, and Michelle Pfeiffer, the movie isn't big on plot but seperates itself from the typical drivers education movie with a surprise ending that universalizes its message and makes a seemingly cliche movie worthwhile. A memorable AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL with now big name stars
27 June 2004 | by (New York,NY) – See all my reviews

while working on my '70s & '80s website I was thinking about some of the old AFTERSCHOOL SPECIALS I remembered. I could remember this ones plot and that it starred Michelle Pfeiffer, Val Kilmer and Mare Winningham...but I couldnt remember the title. Well...gotta love imdb....I did a Val Kilmer search and ONE TOO MANY came up. A lot of posters said they saw this in Drivers Ed. I didnt. I saw it on TV as an AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAl and I had it on vhs tape and watched it a few times. As I remember young not popular girls Michelle Pfeiffer and Mare Winningham are floored when two guys show interest in them. It becomes clear soon that the boy dating Pfeiffer (Val Kilmer!) is a drinker. Mare Winningham trys to talk some sense into Pfeiffer, but Pfeiffer, thrilled to finally have a boyfriend...doesnt heed the advice. One day he's drinking and Mare starts a fight with him. Someone storms out and the next thing we know Pfeiffer and Kilmer are in a moving car, Winningham runs into the road and SPLAT! So is there a lesson here? Of course. Its dont drink and drive and dont let your date drink and drive even if he's as cute as Val Kilmer. I would love to see this again. Im sure its nowhere as cool as I remember (are ANY AFTERSCHOOL SPECIALS???)
