Storyline

Several years after Amity's former Police Chief Martin Brody electrocuted the shark at Cable Junction, his sons, Mike & Sean, are now working in different roles at Sea World Orlando. Mike is working as a park engineer and considering marriage to his girlfriend, killer whale biologist Kathryn Morgan. Sean is also involved with 1 of the park's water skiers, Kelly Ann Bukowski. Sea World is about to open a massive 'Undersea Kingdom' which will bring visitors closer to marine life than ever before. The park is accessible from the ocean by a series of gates, one of which malfunctions. A young Great White Shark swims through the gate, and when a maintenance diver heads down to fix the gate he does not return. The young Great White is captured & placed in a tank but soon dies despite Kathryn's best efforts to save it. More alarming though, is the young shark's massive, 35 foot mother which has followed the baby shark into the lagoon and killed the maintenance diver, whose body is recovered. ... Trivia

When Mike is walking with Kay along the beach and he refers to "the shark attack in Amity" that she was told about, this is a direct reference to the sailboat attack in Jaws 2. See more »

Goofs

Sharks should always be transported submerged in water, not wet-wrapped and transported on a sling. They need water to pass through the mouth or over the gills to breathe. The hoist in from the roof meant leaving him out of the water far too long for such a delicate shark. This is a newborn shark that would've died much sooner under these stressful conditions. In the original 3D version, the Universal Pictures Logo is in 3D. Plus the title "Jaws 3D" comes "toward" the viewer, clamping together as if it was like a shark's mouth. See more »

Not The Worst Of The Sequels, But Close
25 September 1999 | by (Morristown, NJ) – See all my reviews

I had avoided seeing this film for fifteen years because of it's bad reputation and because I love the first Jaws as one of the greatest movies ever made. Having survived the horror of "Jaws: The Revenge" once, I decided to see if I could brave this one, though.

About the only thing that surprised me was that the premise wasn't quite as dumb as "Jaws: The Revenge" is. And while there is a reference to the events of "Jaws 2" at least they don't insult our intelligence with a shark pursuing one family etc. of any "Brody curse."

What sinks this film though is that it's dull in every sense. The FX are cheap and terrible and too often it's hard to figure out what's going on here. Scenes that could have been suspenseful with a competent director just plod along in a muddled fashion. In the end, Jaws 3 comes off more as a glorified made for TV type disaster movie with none of the high quality that elevates the original Jaws above such fare.
