It Isn't That Way!
21 January 2002 | by (Hot Springs, AR) – See all my reviews

I saw this movie when it came out in 1983. I was in the Army at that time and was pleased to see a movie about the modern Army. To say that I was let down is an understatement. To start off with, the affair between the female doctor and the First Sergeant is something that, if true, would never be talked about. Then there is the jerkish commanding officer. Now, I have seen officers that are bigger idiots than this guy, but never in an airborne unit! And then there is the female parachute rigger. Her character was the most believable in the entire movie. But, the accident where the trooper was killed, in plain English, sucked. Soldiers are killed in jump accidents and a streamer is not an uncommon event. But, if there had been no wrong doing or negligence on the part of the rigger, the rigger would never have known that it was their chute that failed. When the C.O. told the rigger that it was her chute that the soldier was using he violated several regulations that, if done in real life, would have gotten him thrown out of the Army. I understand that this is just a movie. But, if you are going to portray a real-life situation, do it right. Any good points? Yes, at least the uniform and insignia was worn right.
