66-year-old "NCIS" and "Damages" actor Michael Nouri -- who is perhaps best known as Nick from 1983's "Flashdance" -- has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. According to E!, a 911 call was placed from a residence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, and the Beverly Hills Police Department responded.

A woman claimed she was "roughed up" by the actor. Nouri was taken into custody for alleged battery against a person in a dating relationship, false imprisonment, and obstruct use of a wireless device -- meaning he took her cell phone away and refused to let her call for help.

He was ultimately released after posting $50,000 bail.

We'd really expect better from Summer Roberts' "The O.C." dad. Julie Cooper would be appalled. »

Greatest Slasher Films (1970 – 1990)

28 October 2012 8:00 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The definition of a slasher film varies depending on who you ask, but in general, it contains several specific traits that feed into the genre’s formula. Author Vera Dika rather strictly defines the sub-genre in her book Games of Terror by only including films made between 1978 and 1984. In other words, she saw it as a movement. When someone describes Brick, they don’t define it as a noir, but instead neo-noir . In other words, it’s a modern motion picture that prominently utilizes elements of film noir, but with updated themes, content, style, visual elements or media that were absent in those from the 1940s and 1950s. So does one consider Scream a slasher film or a neo-slasher, or simply put, a modern slasher?

Some consider Thirteen Women to be the earliest slasher – released all the way back in 1932. Personally I think that is rubbish. Thirteen Women is more like Desperate Housewives on sedatives. »

'Flashdance' Musical Coming to Broadway in 2013

A musical version of "Flashdance," the 1980s hit about a steel welder by day and dancer by night, is coming to Broadway. The show will open in August 2013, its producers said Tuesday, but a theater, dates and casting of the key role, which made Jennifer Beals a movie star, has yet to be announced. For those unfamiliar with Reagan-era diversions, "Flashdance" tells the story of a blue-collar girl whose dreams of becoming a big-time dancer hinge on her acceptance to a tony ballet school. In Memory of Tony Scott

22 August 2012 6:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s a sad reason to be writing this way; it’s a sad article to write for anyone but even more so with a man who took his own life for reasons currently unknown. Tony Scott is a legend in the filmmaking business and he influenced more than just a generation and a genre but the way films were made in general.

He was the master of the blockbuster coming out with Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, True Romance and other classics. As his career developed and his name was further cemented as a safe pair of hands his work became more experimental, bolder and more daring. All you need to do is watch his latest few releases to see he was a man with a vision, one that blockbusters will now sadly miss.

Tony Scott – Love ‘im or hate ‘im, it’ll be a long time before anyone forgets him

21 August 2012 9:16 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

In the late 1970s and 1980s, composer Giorgio Moroder was often accused of trying to replace the orchestral movie soundtrack with high-energy, synthesizer-heavy disco pop laid on with a trowel in movies like Thank God It’s Friday (1978), Flashdance (1983), Scarface (1983), and Top Gun (1986). I remember a magazine story on Moroder which quoted one of his many critics as saying, “The day the music died, Giorgio Moroder was brought in for questioning.”

I think some people had the same opinion about movies and Tony Scott. Full disclosure: I’m one of them. But it would be greatly unfair to Scott, who apparently committed suicide Sunday after being diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, not to admit that, for good or for ill, his 1980s feature work had an enormous impact on commercial filmmaking.

The younger brother of Ridley Scott by seven years, he was gifted – like his brother – with an outrageously »

Tony Scott's films: still glowing after all these years

20 August 2012 4:29 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The director's fondness for quick cuts and tight editing resulted in a catalogue of simple but exhilarating action movies

'I feel the need … the need for speed!" is probably the most famous line from Tony Scott's most famous film, Top Gun (what else?), the movie that made Scott's career and defined the look of commercial films for the late 20th and early 21st century. It is also a line that sums up what audiences loved about Scott's movies, and what critics did not.

Despite the diversity of his career, a common thread throughout all his films, from the gleeful highs of Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, True Romance, The Last Boy Scout and Crimson Tide, to the deadening lows of his first film The Hunger, Revenge and Domino (Keira Knightley plays a bounty hunter – let us speak no more about it), is the whizz-bang-chop-cut style. Tony Scott 1944 - 2012

20 August 2012 10:52 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

"The most frightening thing I do in my life is getting up and shooting movies," said the director Tony Scott in 2009. "Every morning I'm bolt upright on one hour or two hours' sleep, before the alarm clock goes off. That's a good thing. That fear motivates me, and I enjoy that fear. I'm perverse in that way." Scott's take on film-making as an adrenalised, intimidating experience in itself was reflected in the tone and pace of his box-office hits, which included Top Gun (1986), Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Days of Thunder (1990).

A lover of fast cars and motorbikes on the screen and off, and a lifelong rock climber, Scott was adept at injecting thrills into his slick films. This approach rarely brought him critical acclaim and his movies were sometimes unfavourably compared with the more ambitious, philosophical works »

Kyra Sedgwick Fired Off At Flashdance Director Over Phone Call

Actress Kyra Sedgwick missed out on landing a leading role in Flashdance after reprimanding director Adrian Lyne for taking a phone call during her audition.

The star is still embarrassed when she thinks about her meeting with Lyne and insists she'd never do something quite as ballsy today.

Sedgwick tells The Hollywood Reporter, "My agent told me I was supposed to wear a leotard, heels and no tights. I had such bigger balls back in those days and I thought, 'I'm not wearing a leotard. Instead, I'll wear a little miniskirt and high heels.'"

And then Lyne's phone rang during the audition and the actress flipped as he reached to pick it up.

She recalls, "I turned to him and said, 'You're not going to answer that phone call. I'm auditioning for you!'" »
