The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

PG For brief mild violence and language, and for some bullying

A man has a lamp stand that is shaped in the form of a woman's leg with a high heel, and the movie's narrator references it as..."electric sex gleaming in the window."

There are some mild references throughout the movie.

Violence & Gore

Ralphie daydreams about himself killing bad guys with a BB gun by shooting them in the butt.

Some boys get into a couple mild verbal fights and pushing, mostly involving a mean bully. One scene is more graphic and shows a nose bleed a couple times.

An electric outlet is overloaded at a couple points and sparks fly.

A dog's ear is caught in a door.

A cooked duck is served for dinner near the end, and its head is chopped off.

Profanity

In a two-minute sequence, "the big mother of all swear words: F dash dash dash" is dwelt upon. (The main character says "ffffffffffudge" on screen, but it is clarified that he really says the other word.)

The father and a few boys say "hell", "son of a bitch", "damn", and "smart ass". The father does a lot worse cursing, and the fact that he does so is a significant plot point, but what he says in anger is never heard on screen.

The parents have a glass of wine in a couple scenes near the end.

One brief moment when the boy spits (tobacco, presumably) during a western daydream.

Delivery man is smoking a cigar.

A dream sequence features the adults in the child protagonist's life mocking him and chanting, "You'll shoot your eye out." The boy's teacher is dressed as a witch.

During a few daydreams there are images of comic "bad guys."

The dad is portrayed as a bit tough, yelling and cussing nonsense.

Santa and his elves are portrayed as mean.

A boy sticks his tongue to a frozen lamp post after being dared to by his friends. They then leave him out in the blizzard as they don't want to miss school and the fire department has to come to pull his tongue off. Can be a little unsettling.

This picture is best suited for those age 8+.
