What Are Your Favorite Christmas Movies?

24 December 2008 8:17 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In our latest open discussion post regular Screen Rant reader Metallicat79 asked what folks’ favorite Christmas movie are, so I thought that a worthy topic of its own post.

If ever there was a time of year for traditions, this is it - and many people have movies they watch with friends and/or family that are part of that (yours truly included).

So in the comments below, please share your top/favorite Holiday films!

I’ll start of with my favorites:

10. Scrooged (haven’t seen this one in ages but I remember liking it a lot)

9. Home Alone (I balk every time my wife wants to watch it but I always end up liking it)

8. White Christmas (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, c’mon!)

7. Die Hard (“It’s Christmas Leo - a time of miracles.”)

6. A Christmas Carol (the George C. Scott version)

Dailies Holiday Programming

24 December 2008 7:27 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Tune in on December 25 for a special half-hour holiday edition of Dailies. Co-hosted by Gerrad Hall and Jill Simonian, the show takes a look back at the classic movie A Christmas Story, and includes a present-day interview with "Ralphie." These days Peter Billingsley is best known as the producer of the blockbuster Iron Man.

Gerrad and Jill also recap other movies that feature Christmas, although not in the traditional fashion -- Cast Away and Love Actually. Plus, they suggest three great Santa movies in Gerrad's signature segment ("Reel 2 Rental") and take a humorous look at two Holiday-movie phenomena ("the bad gift" and "the Christmas villain").

Cinematical Seven: Ways to Watch 'A Christmas Story'

23 December 2008 7:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The movie A Christmas Story turns 25 this year. I remember seeing it in a theater when it opened in 1983 -- I was a fan of Jean Shepherd's essays -- and now it's considered a holiday classic. I know people who have been watching it every year since they were old enough to remember Christmas. It's right up there in popularity with Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life, and has surpassed White Christmas and Holiday Inn, with the younger set at least. You now can buy a replica of the leg lamp from the film, either as an actual lamp or as a Christmas tree ornament, and there are few people who see the leg lamp and don't get the reference. Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie, is now a movie producer who appears in amusing cameos in his films, like Four Christmases and Iron Man. (He's especially »

First Look: Complete Cast of Peter Billingsley's Couples Retreat

19 December 2008 2:24 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

In September we told you about a comedy called Couples Retreat with a script by Jon Favreau that is being directed by Peter Billingsley. The concept - four couples go to an island resort on Bora Bora; one is there to work on their rocky relationship, there others are there to play, but they all soon discover participation in the resort's couples therapy program is not optional. Obviously all hell breaks loose soon thereafter. USA Today has our first look at the complete cast, including all four of the beautiful couples. I'm also going to say how perfect this all is that we get this photo today because I can remind everyone to watch A Christmas Story this week, which stars Couples Retreat director Peter Billingsley as Ralphie. Below are the four couples: Kristen Bell and Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau and Kristin Davis, Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman, and Faizon Love »

First Look: Vince Vaughn's 'Couples Retreat'

18 December 2008 2:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The first image from the comedy Couples Retreat has popped up over at USA Today, and it shows our four happy couples posing for the camera, all excited to be working on their relationships. Peter Billingsley (aka Ralphie from A Christmas Story) makes his directorial debut here (off a script written by Jon Favreau) after working as producer on several projects -- and the film stars his friends Vince Vaughn and Favreau (who've teamed up on screen plenty of times now), as well as Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Faizon Love and Kali Hawk.

The film tells of one couple (Bateman and Bell) in need of relationship therapy who, in order to save costs, invite three other couples to join them at a couples retreat. Vaughn says this of the plot: "Jason and Kristen are Type A's struggling to have kids. Faizon and his wife (Kali Hawk) have just separated, »

Read This: 10 Things You Might Not Know About 'A Christmas Story'

18 December 2008 9:02 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I'm sure it's a tradition in your family to watch A Christmas Story at least once during the holiday season. As the film has grown in popularity over the years, folks have gone out of their way to cherish it -- like that dude who bought the original house in Cleveland and turned it into a museum. There was an actual Christmas Story fan convention this year, too, and I'm sure more than a few kids will try to stick their tongues to something cold this winter ... just to see if it really sticks. (Warning: Yes, kids, it will really stick.)

Over at Mental Floss, they put together a list of 10 things you might not know about A Christmas Story. And as someone who thought he knew everything there was to know about this flick, I was pleasantly surprised to find some very cool tidbits in there. Like, for example, »

U.S. film fans made a pilgrimage to Cleveland, Ohio over the weekend - to visit the home of the Parkers in beloved festive classic A Christmas Story.

Devotees travelled from all over America to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary with a convention, trips to the house where the movie was shot and the chance to meet cast members.

The 1983 film, starring former child actor Peter Billingsley, wasn't a big hit when it was first released, but it has since become a must-see annual favourite, with back-to-back showings making up a 24-hour marathon every Christmas Day on U.S. TV networks.

Exclusive: Fangoria Screamography - Bob Clark

As the director of horror classics such as Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things (1972), Black Christmas (1974), and Dead Of Night (1974), Bob Clark was a filmmaker who made a mark on the genre that will never be forgotten. He hit the pop-culture spectrum as the creator of comedic gems such as Porky's (1982), and the perennial holiday classic A Christmas Story (1983). Sadly, Bob Clark passed away on April 4th, 2007, along with his son, as victims of a drunk driver.

From Fangoria comes Screamography: Bob Clark, a never-before-seen one-hour look at the career and legacy of this horror icon.

Faizon Gets No Love in Favreau's Couples Retreat

15 October 2008 7:26 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Rising stars Kristen Bell and Malin Akerman have joined Sex and the City's Kristin Davis as the female leads in the romantic comedy Couples Retreat. The script is from Jon Favreau, who somehow found the time to pen a screenplay while working 20-hour days on the Iron Man set. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Couples Retreat's story revolves around "four couples who go to a tropical island resort, with one couple working on their marriage and the others sucked into the resort's couples therapy." One can only hope that a series of grisly murders ensues. Now that would be funny.

Playing the male leads in Couples Retreat will be Favreau, Vince Vaughn (shocking!), Jason Bateman, and Faizon Love. THR says that "Bell is playing Bateman's wife, Davis plays Favreau's wife, and Akerman plays Vaughn's." Which begs the only slightly ironic question: Where's the love for Faizon?

A Christmas Story's Ralphie Making His Directorial Debut With Couples Retreat

18 September 2008 11:34 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

How's this for a change of pace? Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in A Christmas Story, will be making his directorial debut with a film called Couples Retreat. But that's not all, because Jon Favreau, who you know as the director of Iron Man, will be starring in it as well. Talk about a flip-fop of roles! Favreau actually wrote the script and will be starring with his good friend Vince Vaughn, along with Jason Bateman and Faizon Love as well. Since that "defining" role in 1983, Billingsley has gone on to produce most of Favreau's films and work as a second-unit director, and is now making his directorial debut after directing a short titled The Sacred Fire from 1994. This sounds like one hell of a good comedy. Couples Retreat follows four couples who go to a tropical island resort. While one couple is there to work on their marriage, »
