Emmanuel Lewis' mother became aggravated with cast and crew members who continually picked him up to carry him to filming. Eventually, the head of Paramount Television had to tell them to stop.
The change of the title to "Webster" caused a major rift between Alex Karras, his wife Susan Clark, and ABC. The show originally focused on an ensemble cast, but Emmanuel Lewis' character quickly became the primary focus.
During the show's run, Webster was five to eight-years-old, and Emmanuel Lewis was twelve to sixteen
Original title was "Another Ballgame" and then, "Then Came You", before it was called "Webster".

Paramount Television agreed that the show would continue in first-run syndication if ABC cancelled it after fewer than one hundred shows. ABC dropped the show in 1987, after one hundred shows. Paramount had similar arrangements for Cheers (1982) and Family Ties (1982).

Webster always referred to Katherine Calder-Young Papadapolis as "Ma'am" because she wasn't his Mom, but that was the closest sounding to "Mom".

The show was originally to feature only George and Katherine, portraying a newly married celebrity couple attempting to settle into normal domestic life. After Emmanuel Lewis was signed to star in an undeveloped and undefined series for ABC, the network decided to combine the two.
