Conan O'Brien Joins TBS, Enters The Harsh World Of Cable

It's more than a little poetic that Conan O'Brien's new show will premiere on TBS in November (rather than on Fox, where everybody figured he'd end up). Though O'Brien has spent the better part of his adult life working in television, most of it has been on network TV ("Saturday Night Live," "The Simpsons," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "The Tonight Show"). But he actually got his start on cable writing for the short-lived HBO series "Not Necessarily the News," a faux-news show that was a clear precursor to "The Daily Show."

TBS Announces Conan O'Brien Acquisition and Video Teaser

Assumptions of Conan O'Brien going to Fox turned out to be dead wrong.  Conan is, in fact, going to TBS – and this is not an extremely late April Fool's joke.  TBS has released a press release describing Conan O'Brien's upcoming show, along with a brief video teaser.  Check out both below.

Conan O'Brien joins the TBS family Comedy icon Conan O'Brien is joining TBS to host a late-night talk show that is expected to debut in November. The Emmy-winning comedian's new program will be followed by Lopez Tonight, which will shift to a midnight time slot.

O'Brien began talks in earnest with TBS just last week, after George Lopez personally called him to ask that he consider joining the network's late-night line-up. "I can't think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in," Lopez said. "It's the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy."
