The elegant St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco is the setting for a string of distinct plots, usually romantic, often involving famous guest stars for an episode or two. Victoria Cabot runs the hotel for absent owner Laura Trent (Bette Davis, seen only in the opening episode), until Cabot dies halfway through the series, when manager Peter McDermott takes over and makes Christine the new manager. Bette Davis starred as Mrs. Laura Trent, owner of San Francisco's St. Gregory Hotel. She fell ill and was hospitalized early into the show's first season. Anne Baxter (Davis' nemesis Eve Harrington in All About Eve (1950)) took over the hotel as Victoria Cabot, Mrs. Trent's sister-in-law. After Davis recovered, the show's producers asked her to resume her role but she wasn't happy with the scripts she was sent so she turned them down. I have good memories of the series. It was much like the series "The Love Boat." Guests would come in and get involved with other and that is how most episodes were. There were also the relationships between the people who worked in the hotel. I remember "Christine Francis" Connie Sellecca (P.S.I. Luv U) had a beautiful long hair. "Peter McDermott" James Brolin
Marcus Welby, M.D.) scored a lot of points with me when he took over the hotel and made Christine the Hotel manager. The Hotel was beautiful as well as the cast. This was a very enjoyable series. .
