Westworld Recap: Meet Your Maker

27 November 2016 8:20 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Need to catch up? Check out last week’s Westworld recap here.

Before we get into the major goings-on of this week’s Westworld, let’s all agree that there’s at least a tiny chance that everything we know to be true is really just an elaborate program crafted by a master manipulator who might wipe the whole thing tomorrow and start afresh. Cool?

Hey, it may sound ridiculous, but as recently as two episodes ago, Bernard thought he was your average child-grieving, co-worker-banging mammal. Now he’s a fully sentient puddle of blood and circuitry on the floor in a forgotten Westworld lab. »

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Delusion

13 November 2016 6:30 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Paging Dr. Groovy, please report back to reality!

Going into Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 7, I wasn't quite sure what Baal had in store for our pal Ash. Unless Baal needs a new meat suit, he doesn't typically kill for the fun of it. His enjoyment seems to come from toying with people, planting that seed and eventually driving them bananas.

Last week I had mentioned how I loved the song choice for the closing credits on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 6. What made it even better was how it clued us in to where the next episode would take us.

The psychiatric ward was a great setting. The dilapidated hospital set the tone for the episode along with the introduction of Ash's psychiatrist, Dr. Peacock.

Baal cleans up nicely doesn't he?

There is something genuinely off putting about insane asylum's in general, so choosing to go this »

Trolls Review

6 November 2016 10:31 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As far as animated films go, 2016 has offered a wild assortment of big-screen releases, ranging from exceptional (Zootopia, Kubo and the Two Strings) to downright awful (Ratchet & Clank). Trolls – the latest effort from Dreamworks Animation – sadly fits somewhere into the latter category, a studio product that feels like it was built in a focus group rather than a creative team with an imaginative story worth telling. Perhaps its basis on the popular line of Troll dolls should be a red flag.

The film follows Princess Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick) and reluctant ally Branch (voiced by Justin Timberlake) as they set off on a mission to rescue a group of kidnapped Trolls from the monstrous Bergens, ogre-like creatures who eat their kind on a holiday called “Trollstice” in order to achieve happiness. By now, everyone has heard Timberlake’s hit single “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” and for those viewers »

Westworld Recap: No Dress, No Damsel

30 October 2016 7:00 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Need to catch up? Check out last week’s Westworld recap here.

This week, Westworld takes us to Pariah, a far-flung section of the park where rules don’t exist and everyone is spoiling for a fight. Think Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride, except that instead of a gift shop, there’s a couple having public sex in a stagecoach.

This anything-goes town becomes a proving ground for both Dolores and William, who finally find the impetus to define their own destinies. For her, it’s a breakthrough that, perhaps not coincidentally, comes with a body count. For him, »

Emily S. Whitten, Brian Henson, Puppets, and Muppets!

28 October 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

In my recent Dragon Con Round-Up I shared that this year’s Dragon Con kick-started a new fascination with puppetry for me (which, if you can imagine, may someday even rival my obsession with voice actors!).

This was due to two panels I attended, Brian Henson’s Evolution of Puppetry, and The Puppetry of Star Wars’ Bb-8. Both were fantastic; and I found it just fascinating to watch the magical way in which the puppeteers, behind the scenes, bring the puppets to life. I was also fortunate to be able to ask Brian Henson some questions at a small press conference; and now, of course, I get to share all of that with you!

First we have a few clips from the Evolution of Puppetry panel which are just super fun. In one, Brian Henson demonstrates the Henson method of puppeteering with an actual puppet. It was delightful to be »

Need to catch up? Check out last week’s Westworld recap here.

Note to Westworld‘s subterranean engineers: You might wanna put a few more Maeves into the development pipeline, and fast.

The gutsy android madam (and there’s a phrase I didn’t think I’d type today) is made of some very tough stuff, which she proves in this week’s episode by carving into her own abdomen and exhorting a bandit to poke around in there like he’s a trick-or-treater searching for that elusive full-size candy bar.

Westworld‘s Teddy is one cute, sharp-cheekboned cowboy. But, if things continue apace, he’s going to have to rely on more than his looks, manners and tragic backstory to keep the love of his country cutie.

See, Delores is becoming a sentient being before our very eyes — a development that Sunday’s episode, “The Stray,” makes rather clear. And her fledgling personhood means she’s no longer swayed by her beau’s scripted promises of how they’ll be happy “someday.”
