Part fantasy, part whimsy, part reality, Cuffy was so wholly satisfying that what was and wasn't were not immediately obvious until you actually stopped to consider. Bernard Cribbins' performance as the lovable tramp was so strong that this spin-off was commissioned even though Cuffy had only appeared twice in Shillingbury Tales, the parent series it spun off from. The warm and idyllic world presented here was more or less fading to grey twenty five years ago and you'd probably have to travel back a further quarter century for it to be reasonably true. But who cares? Only me and you probably and - as its likely that Cuffy will never see the light of day again - we'll never get the chance to convince others that they really must acquaint themselves with these golden hours.
