Cinema Retro's Mark Mawston recently caught up with the legendary Ian Ogilvy to discuss projects past and present. 

Mark Mawston: Ian, your film career began in the mid 60’s with The She Beast, directed by Michael Reeves. You had a great relationship with him. How did that come about?

Ian Ogilvy: Well, when we were 15 years old we made a couple of amateur movies together after we were introduced by a mutual friend and we became great friends. I used to stay at his mother’s house with him in Norfolk and over two years we made these two little amateur movies. Tim Burton is perhaps one of the most unique and exciting filmmakers working today. With a vision inspired by classic horror and a dry wit, his films are often fiercely entertaining and endlessly clever. Of course, that’s not to say that there aren’t dark spots on his filmography. Like every filmmaker he’s had his missteps but even when the movies don’t quite work Burton manages to create films that are visually stunning and artistic. With the recent release of Big Eyes and a possible sequel to Beetlejuice in the works, examining Burton’s work and influence is more important than ever.

If This Is Your First Time Here: Welcome! This is my weekly column where I talk about superhero movie news, rumors and speculation. 

This Week: New Ant-Man trailer! New Daredevil details! New Composers and a kickoff to Marvel's victory lap year.

It’s the first week of a big year and Marvel’s been throwing down a bunch of stuff, knowing damn well this is the last year of them being on top of the default superhero mega franchise pile. Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad are representing DC’s big launch into the game next year and both of them are crossover movies in the sense that they’ll be featuring well known characters from different DC Comics. Fox just took hold of 2016 for the X-Men, adding Gambit to 2016’s Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse to take a grand total of Three installments in the year. »
