Storyline

The Federation along with a group of scientists are working on Project Genesis, which is to bring a dead planet to life. So far the preliminary experiments have been a success. Now for the next phase which is to actually bring a planet to life, a dead planet is required. So the Federation sends a starship, the USS Reliant to find one and its first officer is Commander Pavel Chekov. They come across what appears to be a dead planet in the Ceti Alpha system. But the sensors detect something which makes it not a dead planet. But the Captain thinks maybe they can remove it, so he and Chekov go and investigate. But they find what appears to be a lifepod. When Chekov sees something, he tells the Captain they should leave, but they are captured by the inhabitants. When they meet the leader, Chekov recognizes him as Khan Noonien Singh, the genetic superman from late 20th century whom Kirk found 15 years ago. Khan tried to take over the Enterprise and kill Kirk, but Kirk subdued him and left ... Written by rcs0411@yahoo.com

Trivia

Just after Kirk steps aboard, Scotty (James Doohan) says he "had a wee bout," but that McCoy pulled him through. Actually, this was a reference to Doohan's heart attack, which took place just before filming began. See more »

Goofs

The date at the beginning of this movie is given as Stardate 8130.4. When Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are viewing Dr. Marcus' proposal for the Genesis Project, the stardate given for the proposal is Stardate 7130.4, to which Kirk mentions the proposal was made a year ago. The first Stardate given at the beginning of Star Trek: The Motion Picture is Stardate 7411.4 (by the computer at the Epsilon IX Space Station), and that movie was to have taken place approximately 14 years before this movie (2285). The erroneous Stardates would imply that the first movie took place sometime after Dr. Marcus' proposal to Starfleet and would've been less than a year ago, which is not the case. See more »

Light Years Ahead of Star Trek The Motion Picture
20 June 2003 | by (Louisville, Kentucky) – See all my reviews

When Star Trek The Motion Picture was released, the masses flocked to it. Unfortunately, the first film outing for the crew of the USS Enterprise was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Never underestimate Trekkies! This Second Star Trek movie was even more greatly anticipated than the first. Reluctantly, I went to see it. I was pleasantly surprised. Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan, in my estimation, is everything the first one should have been, and then some!

Captain Kirk, now an admiral, is experiencing some sort of mid life crisis. And of course, he ends up back in the command chair when a routine inspection and review of the rookie crew on the Enterprise runs in to unexpected trouble. The crew of the USS Enterprise is in fine form in this outing, and much of the camaraderie of the original TV series is recaptured. And when and old adversary of Captain Kirk shows up with revenge in his heart, this movie gets rolling. It has twists, turns and surprises aplenty. The ending is truly a surprise.

Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan is a wonderful complement to the original TV series and stands on its own as a very good space adventure film. I'd rate it a 89.5/100. If you want to see what all the full about Star Trek is, Star Trek II is a great place to start.
