| Plot Summary |
Little Sabine has spent her childhood in an orphanage after her parents died in a car accident. When one of the women in charge at the orphanage, Edith, leaves to have a baby, Sabine runs away, because Edith was the only adult there she could trust. She then wanders through the city to find someone to take her in. She meets a lot of people on her journey, but she seems out of place everywhere she goes until, at last, she realizes that there is a special place where she belongs. Written by DEFA Film Library |

| Trivia | In a 2005 interview, Petra Lämmel said that one of the most difficult scenes in the film was the one where she's standing naked in the bathtub. "That was really bad: I didn't want to take my clothes off. The two childcare workers spoke to me with the tongues of angels, telling me that it was important and that nobody would see that, only the camera and Helmut Bergmann were in the room during the shoot. Which was total nonsense, after all, the movie was showing in the cinema: but that's how they managed to persuade me. Later on, I was often teased by my classmates because of this scene," she said.
