Trivia

Blame It on Rio (1984) co-screenwriter Charlie Peters previously wrote Kiss Me Goodbye (1982) which was a remake of the Brazilian movie Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands (1976) [Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands]. That movie and its source novel were both set in Brazil, South America, where Blame It on Rio (1984) is mostly set, with the American remake Kiss Me Goodbye (1982) being set in the USA. The original Brazilian film had a number of 'boudoir farce' story elements which were taken out for the American Kiss Me Goodbye (1982) remake. Peters then around two years later co-wrote this American remake Blame It on Rio (1984) which also takes place in Brazil, re-setting the action there from the Côte d'Azur in France where the source film, In a Wild Moment (1977) [One Wild Moment], was mostly set. But this time the remake, Blame It on Rio (1984), did not have the 'boudoir farce' story elements removed from its source foreign film, as had been the case with Kiss Me Goodbye (1982). See more »

A Cute Romantic Comedy
7 December 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I think I may have been one of the few people who saw this film in the theaters, but I really enjoyed KISS ME GOODBYE, a lighthearted comedy about a widow (Sally Field)preparing to remarry, who, days before her wedding, is visited by the ghost of her deceased first husband (James Caan), who was a Broadway director and choreographer. The story goes to all the familiar places that you would expect it to, but it is played with such an exuberant energy that you can't help but start to care for these people. Field and Caan are in top form and Jeff Bridges is at his adorably nerdy best as Field's new fiancée (a precursor to his performance in THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES). There's also a brief, but memorable turn by the late Claire Trevor as Field's mother. A charming romantic fantasy that will grow on you upon repeated viewings.
