Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy House to release as Partition:1947 in India

30 June 2017 10:53 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy House will release as ‘Partition:1947’ in India on 18th August, 2017. The film stars Huma Qureshi, Om Puri, Manish Dayal, Hugh Bonneville, Gillian Anderson and Michael Gambon.

Talking about the film Chadha has said, “We were always taught that Partition was because of infighting. But my research shows that it was a calculated political move… I had access to top secret documents in the British library. Their agenda behind the Partition was to eliminate India as a formidable rival to their global supremacy. I am sad that India only thought of itself rather than imagined itself as a global superpower.”

Partition: 1947 tells us the untold story behind Partition.

After 300 years, the rule was coming to an end. The rule of the British!! For six months in 1947, Lord Mountbatten assumed the post of the last Viceroy, with a responsibility of handing India back to its people. Viceroy’s »

Tubelight Movie Review

25 June 2017 8:54 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Eid isn’t Eid if you don’t have a Salman Khan film to gush over. Since back in 2009, it is fully accepted in the industry that Salman owns Eid. Indian and world audiences have loved him over and again. Whether it was the remake of a Telugu film Pokiri in Wanted, the romantic spy action of Ek Tha Tiger or the cross-border comedy that was Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman has firmly settled himself as the man for Eid in Bollywood. Last year was no different with the blockbuster Sultan. From all indications however, this year will be different. Even though Kabir Khan is helming the megaphone again, this film is different to anything that has come before from Salman or Bollywood. For the first time, we are going to look at war from the perspective of the soldiers’ families.

“Kya tumhe yakeen hai?” From the poster, we have the immediate feel of change. »

“Dividing people only leads to violence” – Gurinder Chadha on Viceroy’s House

28 February 2017 7:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Stefan Pape

When we saw Viceroy’s House in London, prior to the film’s world premiere out in Berlin, the director Gurinder Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham) introduced the film and when doing so, was almost reduced to tears. For this project represents a distinctly personal tale for the filmmaker, and when we sat down to discuss the film with Chadha ahead of its March 3rd release, she explained why.

It’s not a title that will resonate purely with Chadha though, nor just with Indians or Pakistanis, as it’s a remarkable pertinent tale – that works as a real comment on modern society.

“When we started making the film seven years ago, Obama was President of America, there was no Syrian refugee crisis, Brexit wasn’t an idea in anyone’s head and there certainly wasn’t a reality TV star in the white house,” she told us. »

‘Viceroy’s House’ Review: India’s History With the British Gets a Bland Makeover — Berlinale 2017

14 February 2017 12:26 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

To its credit, “Viceroy’s House” does tell a gripping story about the Partition of India and the mass displacement that then followed. Full of harrowing details and unbelievable twists, the tale is then brought to a powerfully emotional close with the reveal that it is the story of director Gurinder Chadha’s own family.

To the film’s detriment, it only does so in its final 30 seconds, as a series of titles over black just before the credits roll. Unfortunately, there is nothing a fraction as engaging in the preceding 106 minutes.

“Viceroy’s House” gives away its intentions right there in the title. The film depicts those momentous events of 1947 – the year the British left India for good, though not before carving out chunks of India’s east and west to create the Dominion of Pakistan – from the limited vantage point of the Viceroy’s New Delhi residence, now known as the Rashtrapati Bhavan. »

Viceroy’s House: Two sides of the story emerge in these new character posters

14 February 2017 6:05 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Zehra Phelan

Two new character posters have arrived for British drama, Viceroy’s House and we can’t help thinking they have a link to Valentine’s Day. With Gillian Anderson gazing lovingly at her Husband, Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville) on one side and the young lover’s, Jeet and Aalia cosying up to each other.

Related: Viceroy’s House Trailer and Poster

Viceroy’s House is set in a time where men were seen to rule their women and these posters depict this in a blatant manner with both Lord Mountbatten and Jeet in regal, honourable stances ever so slightly in front of the ladies. Even though fitting for the time, to portray this on promotional posters in the 21st century makes them feel dated. Oh and while we are here does anyone else, after watching our previous trailer post for Viceroy’s House, think Gillian Anderson has »
