Continuity: The smoke in Spicoli's bong during the scene where Mr. Hand drops by for a visit.
Continuity: When Mike and Mark first arrive at Stacy's place to go swimming, Stacy and Linda are laying out in the sun. The spot they are lying in alternates between sunny and shady between shots.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The Led Zeppelin song "Kashmir" is on the album "Physical Graffiti", not "Led Zeppelin IV" as stated in the film.
Continuity: During the driving sequence immediately preceding Spicoli's wreck, two scenes are repeated three times. The first shows him approaching two cars. The second shows him passing between them.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Linda dives into the pool, makes a sharp turn to the right, and uses the ladder on the side of the pool to get out (complaining of water in her ears). The turn, while cut a bit short, is not impossible.
Crew or equipment visible: When Brad drops Stacy off at the bowling alley, crew members can be seen reflected in the car door's window as she opens her door.
Continuity: During the football game scene, it appears as if Ridgemont is celebrating an end-of-game victory, yet the scoreboard shows that it is only the second quarter.
Continuity: When Mike Damone undresses with Stacy, he throws his bathing suit on the floor, but in the next shot, it is hanging on the hook behind him.
Continuity: During the robbery at the Mi-T-Mart, the robber knocks the cookies off the counter and there are three cookies left. In the next shot, there are none.
Boom mic visible: When the robber hits the cookies off of the counter in the Mi-T-Mart, the boom can be seen moving in the window reflection.
Continuity: When Brad is being fired in All-American Burger, the Coca-Cola clock on the background keeps shifting time out of sequence.
Crew or equipment visible: As Rat leaves Stacy's house at night, a crew members shadow can be seen moving on the overhang of the house in the upper right corner of the screen.
Continuity: Before Ratner approaches Stacy and asks for her phone number, a customer in front of her is ordering a slice of pizza. In the close-up shot, there is a pen next to the order tablet. In the next shot, the pen is gone and the pizza is in a different position.
Continuity: Before Ratner approaches Stacy at the Pizza Parlor, a customer is buying a slice of pizza. The position of the pizza changes between shots, and the pen near the tablet also disappears.
Boom mic visible: As Brad is attempting to open the safe in the convenience store, the boom mic can be seen moving in the reflection of the window.
Continuity: The telephone on Stacy's nightstand appears then disappears while she and Rat are lying in the bed kissing.
Continuity: While Brad is talking to his friend at the burger joint while frying burgers, the burgers change position on the grill between shots.
Continuity: When Brad is next to the pretty girl in the Corvette, as she pulls away, you can hear the sound of the Corvette engine. In the next shot, from the interior of the Brad's car, we see the street directly ahead where the Corvette should be seen pulling away, but the Corvette is not there, even though the revving engine sound is still audible.
Continuity: The patch Damone puts on his Gremlin to cover the word "prick" is too small, yet we see no paint beyond it.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Mr. Hand is yelling at the class for failing his test, he re-teaches and tells the students that the Platt Amendment is an Amendment to our Constitution and is vital in their daily lives. The Platt Amendment is neither a Constitutional Amendment nor is it important in Americans' daily lives. The Platt Amendment established Cuba as a US protectorate after the USA helped free Cuba from Spanish rule during the Spanish-American War. Mr. Hand also says the Platt Amendment was passed in 1906. It was passed in 1901.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): At the beginning of the film when the kids are buying the tickets we are told that the tickets would normally be $12.50 (so we know two of them would be $25). The tickets are sold for $20 each ($40 total) and he says he made $16 when actually he only made $15.
Continuity: The big football game with Lincoln High takes place well into the Christmas season, as indicated by the decorations at the mall and All-American Burger. The high school football season would have definitely been over by this point, except for possibly the post-season.
Continuity: When Spicoli is in the convenience store with Brad, after saying, "I knew it," Spicoli reaches down off camera and picks up something and you can hear him place it on the counter, but in the next shot there's nothing there, he then picks up a can and puts it on the counter again.
Crew or equipment visible: When Spicoli jumps on stage to sing with the band at the dance you can see a camera and cameraman in the lower left part of the picture.
Continuity: When Rat and Stacy are sitting on Stacy's bed, the page with the picture of Mr Deacon is the one open as they start kissing. When they sit up so Rat can leave, there is a different page open in the picture album.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The spelling and underlining of "Mr. Hand" written on the chalkboard changes from shot to shot.
Crew or equipment visible: When Jefferson parks his car in the beginning of the movie, a light can be seen reflected in the finish of his car in the extreme lower right hand corner of the screen.
Crew or equipment visible: When the Pizza Guy knocks on the door, a crew member can be seen moving in the reflection of the glass.
Continuity: As Stacy and Ron Johnson drive at night, the background outside the car repeats itself numerous times.
Continuity: As Damone hands the boys the tickets to the Van Halen concert, there are two people behind them buying admission to the movies. In the next shot, they are gone.
Crew or equipment visible: When Hamilton is explaining "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Dice" to Spicoli, the crew and some equipment can be seen reflected in the window.
Continuity: During the scene where Jeff Spicoli crashes the Camaro he's driving, the headlight that's out switches from right to left.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the pizza parlor, Rat asks for Stacy's phone number. She produces a pen from her apron and before she even checks, asks Rat to borrow his pen because hers doesn't work. How would she know it doesn't work without trying it first? And IF she knew it didn't work because of the last customer, why would a waitress knowingly carry around a pen that doesn't work?
Revealing mistakes: When Damone and Stacy are walking home from school, each can be seen with a lump under their shirts from wearing a wireless lavalier microphone.
Continuity: During the robbery, the robber shoves a box of green-packaged mints onto the counter by the safe. These disappear in the next frame that shows the safe counter.
Continuity: When Stacy is waiting by the curb for Damone to pick her up, Brad's car is clearly not in the driveway. However, when Stacy hears Brad's car start she runs outside to catch a ride with him and his car is just backing out of the driveway like it had always been there.
Continuity: When Damon takes Rat to get Stacie's number, the camera shows a quick shot from far away of Stacie leaning over the counter next to the cashier. Stacie's hair clearly has a braid running down the side. But as soon as Rat comes up to talk to her, her hair simply has been pulled back by barrettes. Her hair style is clearly different.
Continuity: In the scene when the little boy is sitting on Santa Claus' lap we see the child is happy, smiling and talking to Santa and Santa's knee is dry. They then immediately cut to a closeup and the child is crying and asks for his mother and Santa's knee is soaked.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Damone claims he can't talk to Stacy "because he's helping his father in the garage." But later scenes prove that he lives in an apartment and doesn't have a garage to park his car in (though the garage excuse could just be a lie to get Stacy off his back.)
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): At one point, Brad claims he has to work before school. But this is during the part of the movie that he works at the seafood restaurant. No fast-food restaurant like this would be open early enough that someone has to work there "before school." One possibility is that the scene was originally meant to be put later in the film when he got the Mi-T Mart job.
Revealing mistakes: When the Mr. Pizza Guy person shows up at Mr. Hand's class, he asks the class who ordered the extra cheese and sausage. However, when Mr. Hand opens the pizza box to divide up the slices, there is no sausage actually on the pizza; it is just a plain cheese pizza.
Continuity: When Brad gets fired, a delivery truck shows up between shots.
Continuity: The picture of Pete Townsend in Damone's room is shown hanging under the window then the closeup of the same picture is shown by a poster with no window in sight.
