Son of documentary maker Errol Morris has gone into the same line of work, albeit with added psychedelic frogs
When people ask Hamilton Morris what he does, he tells them he works in science. "I don't have any desire to explain myself," he says. Which is a shame, because if he did, they'd get a much more outlandish answer. Morris is a 24-year-old psychonaut – that is to say, an explorer in the realm of psychoactive substances. Another way of putting this is that he takes drugs for a living.
Resembling an even-more-attenuated member of the Horrors and talking in a distinctive, deep bass voice with long, drawled vowels that themselves sound narcotised, Morris travels the world in search of new highs. These adventures, which he undertakes with a mix of gonzo abandon and scholarly rigour, are chronicled in the vice.com video series Hamilton's Pharmacopeia.

The last credit Joe Eszterhas has for screenplay work is in 2006, for the Hungarian film "Children Of Glory" (he also got his name on "Basic Instinct 2" for creating the characters). And while he made brief headlines last year when his new script "Lust" got music video helmer Hype Williams attached, nothing has been heard since. In fact, he's now most famous for being on the unfortunate end of a Mel Gibson tirade, one that he used to help boost the profile of The Wrap who breathlessly and desperate wrung every drop out of the story (and of course, reported on this). And now, he's written a 30,000 word book about the ordeal. We're not fucking kidding.
Brilliantly titled "Heaven And Mel," Eszterhas says of the book, “On a human level it’s a great story, and it can’t be told in a nine-page letter. Much of it is amusing, »

MGM’s celebration of James Bond’s 50th anniversary includes this collection, which includes all 22 action films in the 007 series, a few new special features and promotion for the 23rd movie, Skyfall.
The Bond 50 set also represents the only collection with all the movies on high-definition Blu-ray. If you know (or are) a fan of James Bond films, especially if you’re looking to expand your Blu-Ray collection, you’ll want to mark your calendars for September 25th. The full collection, along with some great bonus features, will be released as Bond 50, to celebrate 50 years of James Bond.
Beyond getting all 22 films, which come with over 100 hours of bonus features, there will also be an additional disc of bonuses, with all new featurettes, including The World of Bond, a Pop-Up Trivia optional ride through the entire franchise. While any 22-movie set is unlikely to come with an “automatic purchase” price tag, this is one that is sure to tempt quite a few fans. The entire set of Bond films is hard to pass up, and with the nearly unbelievable treasure trove of bonuses, it really is a collection that kicks up the value.

Facebook has enjoyed a gangbusters week, thanks in no small part to its impending Ipo on Friday. Today, according to the Wall Street Journal, Facebook even decided to increase the Ipo to 421.2 million shares. But of course, the pendulum of Facebook’s fate always has to swing both ways. With this good news, a relic of Facebook’s tumultuous early years (see: The Social Network) has surfaced.

Online video is trying to its best to reach as many advertisers as possible. That was the whole point of the Digital Content NewFronts. It was a two-week long series of showcases where online video publishers and distributors aggregated as many individuals in charge of advertising dollars in the same room as possible and then told those individuals how online video is @#$%ing awesome, how many online video properties have bigger-than-television-sized audiences, and how - with tools only inherent to the internet - advertisers can better target, spend, and track their dollars in online video than on any other entertainment medium. The events were half edutainment and half dog and pony show, but they’re also not the only ways to reach advertisers to inform them about all the benefits of online video. Another way is by advertising. At least that’s what Michael Green, CEO of The Collective believes. »

Elise Testone, the 28-year-old rock and soul crooner from South Carolina, had mixed feelings about being eliminated Thursday night. On the one hand, she told EW that she was surprised to be sent home after her rendition of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Bold as Love.” “I felt completely successful that performance in every aspect,” said Testone, ” the outfit, the singing, and having my bandmate onstage with me.”
On the other hand, Testone wasn’t about to dwell on her elimination. “I accepted what happened to me as soon as it happened,” she said. “I just thought, ‘What’s next? »

Games retailers are among the most devious in the acquisition of your hard earned funds so I am going to let you in on a few little secrets they don’t want you to know.
The Pre-owned Swindle
Whether you agree with a pre-owned games market or not, it is undeniably the most lucrative part of games retail. This is for a few very simple reasons. Firstly stock is acquired low and sold high. A triple A title such as Skyrim will at most trade in for £25 in most retailers. While the full price is between £39.99 and £44.99 the pre-owned price will be between £37.99 and £42.99. A profit of around £12 – £15 pounds for the retailer and a saving of about £2 for the customer. You may think, well £2 is still £2 and it is, but retailers do not add Vat to pre-owned products, as the Vat was paid for that product the first time it was sold. »

After years with The White Stripes (R.I.P.), collaborative projects like The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, an ex-wife/bandmate that everyone thinks is his sister, and now a new solo album, Jack White‘s been a busy man. While he’s no stranger to film, he’s never composed a film score until now. According to Disney, they’ve hired the slightly mad musician to score The Lone Ranger, the forthcoming movie from Gore Verbinski. The director has worked most often with Hans Zimmer, but there’s no denying that White has incredible musical talent. As for movies, White worked with Alicia Keys on the Quantum of Solace song “Another Way to Die,” he was featured in It Might Get Loud, and he also appeared on “Rome” – the album from Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi which was inspired by Spaghetti Westerns. It’ll be an interesting experiment to see how his vision and talent transpose »

Jack White will be bringing his love of old-timey tunesmanship to Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer’s upcoming remake of The Lone Ranger.
The White Stripes and Raconteurs musician has a well-documented love of roots music, and will be bringing that to the Old West tale, along with his own modern edge, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said Tuesday at CinemaCon, the annual convention for theater owners. “So we’re going to have a little rock ‘n’ roll score, and I can’t wait to hear his rendition of the William Tell Overture,” Bruckheimer said.
The producer also revealed a few more »

The James Bond films are notoriously made according to a tried and tested formula. Tabloids, websites and fan forums love to debate every component of this formula every time there is a new 007 adventure. In the build up to Skyfall there has already been debate over the casting of Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris. The most talked about ingredient of any Bond film however is always the title song, and who will sing it.
British singers and songwriters are inevitably linked to the franchise. Before Quantum of Solace in 2008, the press remained convinced, even when the evidence told them otherwise, that the late Amy Winehouse would sing the iconic tune, with Mark Ronson producing. But eventually the American pairing of Jack White and Alicia Keys ended up singing the disappointing Another Way to Die. This time the rumours have circulated around Adele, whose last album, 21, has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. »

Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale
Written and Directed by Wei Te-Sheng
Taiwan, 2011
Billed as the most expensive film in the history of Taiwanese cinema, Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale had a lot of things going for it. It had the budget, a cast of fifteen thousand people, and was Executive Produced by the legendary John Woo. With ambitions to become the Asian equivalent of The Lord of the Rings, the film eventually peters and becomes nothing more than a lackluster rendition of the already lackluster 300.
The film takes place in the early 20th century, documenting the 50-year long Japanese occupation of Taiwan and its indigenous people. After enduring decades of indignities and maltreatment, a coalition of 300 from various Seediq tribes, led by the illustrious Mouna Rudo (Lin Ching-Tai), stage a fierce rebellion to take back their land and way of life.
Nothing like 300, right?

Air Collision, the best action film ever directed by a woman (for The Asylum), has a great ensemble cast and comes from a really innovative company; The Asylum, like Roger Corman’s various studios, is game to give a woman a chance to direct a genre film as well as to cast all ethnicities and both sexes for all kinds of roles. In short, I love The Asylum.
Director Liz Adams had one award-winning short film under her belt (Side Effect) when she went in for an interview at The Asylum. She was originally asked to write the fast-paced script for the then-unnamed action movie, but was offered the chance to submit herself as the director as well. “I threw my hat into the ring to direct and they gave me a shot,” she says. This is not unlike the shot given to filmmakers like Katt Shea by Corman; when »

Chances are if you spoke to me between May 2011 and February 2012, then at some point I told you to watch NBC's "Smash."
The pilot episode, which I watched about 3,000 times (or seven), was phenomenal. How has the rest of Season 1 been so far? Not so phenomenal. That's not to say it has been downright terrible -- there have been some highly entertaining moments -- but it certainly hasn't been goosebumps-inducing, like the final moments of Episode 1, set to "Let Me Be Your Star."
Now that the show has been renewed for a second season and series creator/showrunner Theresa Rebeck is stepping down, this is the perfect time to reinvigorate the show to win back viewers ... including me.
Ditch the kid. Yes, I'm talking about Leo. Ask any TV critic what the number one problem with "Smash" is and 9 out of 10 of them will probably say "Leo!" Enough with Julia's (Debra Messing) home life. »

With the commencement of filming on the twelfth Star Trek movie this past month, I am reminded of the amazing impact of this franchise despite the tepid success of the 1960s original Star Trek television show. From The Twilight Zone of the 1960s and All in the Family in the 70s to more recent series like Mad Men and The Simpsons, social commentators, scholars, and everyday viewers have heralded certain television shows as important and groundbreaking.
While the several Star Trek series may not have garnered many acting and production awards, it has been arguably more socially and culturally influential than any single television show. For one, the Star Trek franchise spans nearly five decades, something that no other show, including the long-running series The Simpsons or the Law and Order franchise, can claim. Another way to think about this is a child who watched with wonder Star Trek: The Original Series »
