Quentin Tarantino’s Music Supervisor Mary Ramos on Telling Stories Through Music

3 June 2016 12:18 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

On Saturday Quentin Tarantino’s music supervisor, Mary Ramos, will be a keynote speaker at music biz event Midem in Cannes, France. Variety spoke to her about her 23-year career, including her work on Tarantino’s movies — from “Pulp Fiction” to “The Hateful Eight” — and other pics, such as this year’s best-picture Oscar-winner “Spotlight.”

So is Tarantino different from other directors? “Every director I work with has their own unique storytelling style. They’ll tell a story filtered through what’s important to them. It’s my job to help them tell their story through music,” Ramos says.

“What makes Quentin standout is his bold use of music. Often times it is a main character in his movies. The reason is the referential element to his storytelling. We respond to Quentin because music is so much in the forefront and it’s such a bold use, like using David Bowie »

Gruesome Galleries: 1982’s Cat People

10 March 2016 8:23 AM, PST | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Shock strokes some shots from Paul Schrader’s sexy and strange 1982 remake Cat People. Remaking a film whose greatest strength lies in its subtlety, its shadows and monochrome lyricism as a visceral modern sexual psychodrama was a controversial move in 1982. This was, of course, the same year John Carpenter did a cosmic commercial belly-flop…

Wild Eye to debut Debbie Rochon’s ‘Model Hunger’

8 March 2016 12:28 PM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

WildEye Releasing have announced they are set to release the directorial debut of Scream Queen Debbie Rochon, Model Hunger. After nearly 300 films, Rochon (Return to Nuke ‘Em High, Phobia, The Theater Bizarre) steps behind the camera to skewer audiences with her blood-curling take on an actress’ response to forced retirement.

Former pinup model Ginny (Lowry) had been cast aside by the heartless and exploitative modeling industry.  Ginny didn’t take rejection well and grew into a revenge-seeking, bloodthirsty, broken woman. When her new neighbors Debbie (Shepis) and Sal (Capobianco) move in, Debbie begins to notice strange things going on. Sal believes she is mentally unstable, but Debbie becomes determined to figure out what secret life Ginny is leading. Her new nosy neighbor throws a damper on Ginny’s private life: her cannibalistic addictions and ever-growing body count. Both women become determined to put an end to the other’s obsession. »

The Soska Sisters to remake David Cronenberg’s Rabid

28 February 2016 3:00 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Soska sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary, Dead Hooker in a Trunk) have signed on to direct a remake of David Lynch’s classic 1977 horror film Rabid, Variety has revealed.

The original film starred Marilyn Chambers as a woman who undergoes a surgical operation after a motorcycle accident and develops a phallic stinger used to feed on people’s blood, infecting her victims with a disease than turns them into rabid zombies.

“The work of David Cronenberg is legendary, and Rabid is much more than just a horror movie,” states the Soskas. “The real message of his film is powerful, and even more pivotal as we look at the world around us today. It’s an honor to be involved in this love letter to his original, which we handle with the same respect as Paul Schrader’s Cat People, Alexandre Aja’s The Hills Have Eyes and John Carpenter’s The Thing. »

In honor of his recent passing, here are a few of our favorite appearances of David Bowie songs in the movies. We’ll miss you, starman.

Cat People (Putting Out Fire),” Inglourious Basterds (2009)
