"Nikita" fans, rest easy -- though it was on shaky ground for a moment there, the show was picked up for a full Season 3. The second season ended with a few shocking twists last week, but at least we can all look forward to watching it on Fridays at 9 p.m. starting this October. Phew!
"I got a missed call from the head of the studio," Maggie Q tells us, "and I thought, that's either, 'Oh, you're not coming back,' or 'Congratulations.' I called him up, and he answered and he just started laughing, and I went 'Oh, I guess it's good.' We got picked up for 22 [episodes], which I did not genuinely expect at all. If we were coming back I thought we'd get maybe half a season."
The cast will go back to work on Season 3 in July, but in the meantime, Maggie isn't exactly twiddling her thumbs. »

We here at Zap2it noticed something a little strange in looking at the resume of TV legend James Burrows ("Taxi," "Cheers," "Friends") Wednesday morning (May 16) following the CBS upfronts announcement of their new 2012-13 lineup: "Partners," a new comedy for which Burrows directed the pilot, is already on his list of credentials -- a sitcom from 1995 also named "Partners."
And there are more similarities than just Burrows as a director. CBS describes "Partners" as "two life-long best friends and business partners whose 'bromance' is tested when one of them is engaged to be married." The lead characters (played by David Krumholtz and Michael Urie) are architects, and Krumholtz's fiancee is named Ali.
The 1995-96 comedy from Fox is described as "Best friends Bob and Owen work together as aspiring young architects on the rise, their relationship complicated by Owen's recent engagement to Alicia."

I'm completely underwhelmed by ABC's pilots this year, but a report from the presentation mentioned a joke by Jimmy Kimmel. "'If you pay Britney Spears $15 million, how much do you have to pay someone who can sing?' Kimmel said, which was met with a pitying groan. 'Oh, I didn't realize this was a gay audience!'" Honestly, knowing what I know of the reporters attending, how could he not know it was a gay audience?
I suddenly feel very old.
President Obama seems determined to double down on equality. He's threatened to veto the Violence Against Women Act as passed by the House, which doesn't include the Glbt protections as one of the reasons.

Update: CBS Films has picked up the project.
A film by the name of Ends of the Earth test screened in Los Angeles recently.
It came to my attention from a friend and details about the film were slim. Pals who actually attended the test screening reported back to me (since I'm banned from test screenings) to say that it was a found footage flick and "interesting."
Regardless, I was "interested" to know more, so, I dug a bit. What I uncovered was an image (to the left) and a synopsis:
Best friends Clif and Derek are looking for adventure on their round-the-world trip. After an encounter with a mysterious woman Derek undergoes a horrifying blood-thirsty transformation, and their terror-inducing voyage takes them to the Ends Of The Earth.

Since joining Saturday Night Live in 2010, Taran Killam has earned a loyal legion of fans and been hailed as the late-night show's "Next Big Thing" (by New York). It's all thanks to over-the-top skits (like J-Pop America Fun Time Now) - and, of course, his blistering impressions of Michael Cera, Brad Pitt and Bravo's Andy Cohen. But he's no overnight success: Killam, 30, has been working in comedy since he was 12. Although he's not live from New York tonight, here are five things to know about the L.A. native. 1. With Top Gun: Hard Lock now available to buy – and the title almost suggesting that insistent, but never quite explicitly explored homo-erotic subtext, and because the game itself features way too little topless, oily beach volleyball and “macho” high-fives we got to thinking about the best video game bromances out there in the big bad joy-stick world.
And without too much further ado, here they are. I would have loved to feature Maverick and Goose, but there is yet to be a Top Gun tie-in which features two military “friends” navigating the perilous road from self-discovery to social acceptance, via the disgusting obstacles of ignorance and misplaced outrage. Sort of like Double Dragon, but with more bigot-slapping.

So with hundreds of reviews for The Avengers (Avengers Assemble in the UK) ranging from awesome to possibly the best comic book movie yet, Marvel Studios and its parent corporation, Disney, have a long, prosperous road ahead of them in terms of blockbuster franchises. That is as long as they continue to hire similarly talented and capable story tellers like Joss Whedon to take the helms.
And as The Avengers appears to solidify the characters’ continued cinematic success, the ever present elephant in the room just got a bit bigger and louder – and its name is DC/Warner Bros. Although they have been making comic book movies for decades longer than Marvel, with the exceptions of the first couple Superman movies (1978 and 1980) and Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), none of them have been much good and none made an especially positive impression of the genre.

The latest leg of "The Amazing Race" (sun., 8 p.m. Et on CBS) saw the return of fan favorite challenge, the head shave.
Best friends Bopper and Mark were in last place in India so opted to chase the Fast Forward pass as their only real way of staying in the race. The price of the Fast Forward was to have their heads shaved.
Longtime "Tar" viewers will, of course, remember Season 7 racers -- and eventual champs -- Joyce and Uchenna having their heads shaved in India for the Fast Forward all the way back in 2005.
As the barbers went to work, Mark joked to Bopper that "you don't look as good as me, but you look good, bro."
So, did the close shave pay off for the Kentuckians? In a word, no. After narrowly dodging elimination for several legs they were again the last to arrive on the mat. »

How to sell meta-horror and why monkey marketers should stay in the basement.
The Cabin in the Woods, the recent ‘meta-horror’ co-written by Avengers helmer Joss Whedon, is a riot but a lot of people complained the trailer gave too much away.
Are these angry calls fair? Well, sort of, but as the film’s whole selling point is its postmodern play with horror conventions – in this case a pair of corporate suits setting up the deaths of a group of college-age archetypes in a remote cabin – it’s pretty much unavoidable to give that a mention in the trailer. Otherwise you risk making everyone think your witty horror movie is the standard kids-in-the-forest-getting-picked-off-by-mutant-hillbillies template that we’ve seen a million times before.
Movie trailers are always a challenge for the studios. Figuring out what to reveal and what to hide, and what has to be done to hook Joe Cinema Goer, »

On April 7, Mike Wallace, the lion of the TV news magazine died. Wallace was more than a news man. He was a former actor and game show host who found a way to seamlessly blend news and entertainment into a combination that was far more than a sum of its parts. Wallace -- first on Night Beat, then on 60 Minutes -- didn't just investigate or report. He turned interviewing into a blood sport -- becoming both one of the most liked and feared men on television as a result. He brought the same intensity and enthusiasm to every interview -- be it entertainers, world leaders or criminals -- even once calling Ayatollah Khomeini a lunatic, to his face.
This got him into trouble at times -- settling a lawsuit with General Westmoreland; losing a battle with CBS over a tobacco industry whistleblower -- but it also made him something rare »

Get ready to meet your new best TV friends: "Best Friends Forever" (premieres Wed., Apr. 4, 8:30 p.m. Et on NBC) is the kind of show you're gonna want to hang out with every week. Just trust me.
Written, created by and starring funny ladies (and real-life friends) Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, "Best Friends Forever" is a sweet, funny, so-true-it-doesn't-feel-like-a-sitcom kind of sitcom. I visited the set and instantly fell in love with the whole vibe, but watching these two women work together reminded me of those "Best Friends" split heart charms you got with your grade school partner in crime -- they just fit together.
In this case, when Jessica (the "Be/Fri" half of the heart charm) gets served divorce papers, she moves back in with the friend who completes her, Lennon (the "st/ends" half of the heart charm). The only thing that can come »

It should never have worked and it didn’t for many. The traditional South Park animation was so cheap, so basic and crude and even the writing back then was almost entirely puerile. But that was why I loved it so much. It was a cartoon, but it was so filthy. It was childish, my parents hated it, and that only seemed to spur me on to love it more. At first, it was the fart jokes that hooked me. As a thirteen year old, farts were funny (and as a twenty-five year old, I can honestly say they still are), but something happened to both South Park and myself as the years went by. We grew up.
That potty humour is still there in force. South Park never changed exactly, it’s still the same filthy, offensive, tasteless show it always was (in fact it’s arguably worse today »
