Parents Guide for
Annie (1982) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Many of the dancing sequences feature female characters (Grace and the maids, specifically) twirling around in dresses and kicking their legs up. You can see their underwear when they do this. Annie swings her legs around a few times too, but she clearly has lacey "little girl" panties underneath her dress, not really underwear.

Miss Hanigan dances in silk lingerie.

Lilly stuffs jewelry inside her bra, and Miss Hannigan pulls out a necklace.

Miss Hannigan flirts with Mr. Bundles.

A man and woman kiss innocently.

Violence & Gore

A dead mouse is seen.

Annie beats up some boys, but we don't see actual blood or anything. Many of the punches are obviously fake.

Someone gets hit in the face with a broom.

Miss Hannigan threatens the orphans with words such as "If this floor don't shine like the top of the Chrysler Building, your backsides will". She is verbally abusive toward them in many scenes.

Miss Hannigan and Grace fight over Grace's desire to have Annie as a guest in Mr. Warbucks' home. The two women yell at each other and jerk Annie back and forth (they're both grabbing one of her arms).

Miss Hannigan slams her hand down hard on a talking doll, making it say "Mama!" during the song "Little Girls". She then cruelly pulls the head off of this doll.

Annie is kidnapped and put in a car by the "villains" in the movie. She is chased up a water tower, and a man hangs her by her hands off the railing once she gets to the top. She is very upset, crying, and yelling for help. At one point, Miss Hannigan says, "He's really gonna kill her!"

Profanity

A couple uses of the words "damn" ''ass'' and''hell''

Miss Hannigan tells the kids to "shut up" a few times

Some characters are seen smoking.

Miss Hannigan is a heavy drinker and behaves erratically because of it. She is sometimes seen drinking gin straight from the bottle. As a result, her behavior includes stumbling around drunk, falling over, yelling at the kids, calling them names, dancing around in her lingerie, and drinking water from a flower vase.

Annie is chased along a train track and up a bridge thing and is hanging over the edge. She is crying and yelling for help.
