Storyline

An updated, hour-long version of the classic Hannah-Barbera mystery cartoon. Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo travel from town to town in their van, The Mystery Machine, solving cases of hauntings, monsters and unexplained occurrences. In this series, the gang is joined by Scooby's pint-sized nephew, Scrappy-Doo. Unlike his uncle, little Scrappy is constantly looking for a fight, and it is all Scooby and Shaggy can do to keep him from hurtling head-on into every ghost and monster they encounter. Of course, after doing a little investigating, most of these ghosts and monsters turn out not to be so scary after all. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <rocher@fiberbit.net>

Mediocre, even for Scooby Doo
2 August 2011 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Now I love Scooby Doo, he was part of my childhood. However apart from the voice work of Frank Welker, Don Messick and Casey Kasem, the decent music and also the presence of Scooby and Shaggy, I never did like this series. In fact I find it very mediocre, and one of the weaker Scooby Doo series with Shaggy and Scooby Doo! Get a Clue being the worst.

The animation quality was unimpressive. The backgrounds lack fluidity, the colours look flat and the character designs are inconsistent and off model. The story lines are uninteresting on the whole and hold few surprises, while the writing complete with tired jokes and unfunny dialogue contributes to making it one of the weakest-written Scooby Doo series.

The characters are mostly unengaging. Scooby and Shaggy are exceptions, they are very likable characters and Messick and Kasem are great voice actors and always give their all no matter how bad the material is. Fred is alright, but Daphne and Velma are underused, the support characters are dull and some of the voice actors sound as though they are overdoing it to make up for the writing, while Scrappy manages to be more annoying than he was when he dominated the later episodes of the Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show.

All in all, even for Scooby Doo, this is a mediocre and poorly done series. 3/10 Bethany Cox
