To avoid censorship issues pressures from activist groups concerned with violence in children's programming, including having the Hulk knock down a wall with an open hand (instead of a closed fist) and arming the troops at the army base armed with futuristic sci-fi style weaponry.

This particular animated incarnation of Dr. Octopus first appeared in the solo Spider-Man (1981) series voiced by Stan Jones. After his appearance in this cartoon, he next appeared in the third season of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981) and to reinforce continuity, he was again voiced by Michael Bell.
