Review: Teen Wolf Season One

27 May 2012 2:06 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

The challenge in producing a teen-centric horror television show is that it will inevitably be compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon was note perfect with the casting and theme of high school is a horror movie. It takes a brave showrunner to come up with a variation that avoids duplication and can withstand the comparison. MTV, once the home for teen centric music videos, has gone from reality television to scripted series so it made sense that sooner or later they’d dip a claw into the horror genre. What few expected was how successful they would be.

The 1985 Michal J. Fox comedy Teen Wolf was a largely entertaining film capitalizing on the actor’s immense popularity from NBC’s Family Ties and certainly had a theme worthy of adaptation into weekly television. In both the film and the series, a teen encounters a werewolf and becomes one. »

Rebecca Wanzo: I Know You're Tired of Hearing about Girls, but How about a Puzzling Piece of History?

30 April 2012 4:54 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

I'm not mad at Lena Dunham, creator of the new HBO show Girls. She wanted to write about her life -- which is filled with white folks -- and people gave her some money to do it. Her voice is a new voice for television. Despite the misogynist rants of Three and a Half Men co-creator Lee Arohnson about television reaching the point of "labia saturation," women have hardly been at the center of television or film production.

I think the backlash against the show -- largely by feminists of color -- is as much about the kind of praise it received as it is about the show itself. When countless reviews gush about her representing this generation, of course it is going to irritate all the people who are invisible on the show and to the critics. Duhnam didn't help herself with the claim that the white casting was an "accident, »

'The Good Wife' season finale postmortem: Creators tease what's next (with a 'Fifty Shades of Grey' reference)

29 April 2012 7:01 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t yet seen tonight’s season finale of The Good Wife stop reading now. We asked creators Robert and Michelle King to dissect the hour, which Robert directed, and tease where we’re headed in season 4.

Entertainment Weekly: Let’s start with Kalinda. She described her sexuality to Alicia as “flexible.” Is it flexible when she needs something, or flexible because she truly enjoys both men and women? What should we believe?

Robert King: I think what you want to believe, anyway, is that she can’t distinguish between enjoyment and need or manipulation, »

Michael Eisner’s Pitch to Online Video Advertisers

One of the highlights of AOL’s Digital Content NewFront came after AOL CEO Tim Armstrong introduced a short clip highlighting some of the best major motion pictures and television programming of all time (like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Beverly Hills Cop, Cheers, Family Ties, and more), which in turn introduced one of the individuals instrumental in making all of those major motion picture and television programs come to fruition, Michael Eisner. The former-ceo of Disney and founder of new media studio Vuguru (which is behind such online video productions as Prom Queen, The All-For-Nots, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, The Booth at the End, the soon-to-launch-on-aol Little Women Big Cars and Fetching, and more) gave the audience a very abridged version of his career in show business before giving the audience a very brief education in the current state of entertainment. Fox Hid Parkinson's Disease Out Of Fear For Career

1 April 2012 6:36 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Michael J. Fox kept his struggle with Parkinson's disease secret for seven years because he feared it would destroy his ability to find work.

The Family Ties star was diagnosed with the debilitating disorder at the height of his career back in 1991.

Fox kept his medical condition from fans and suffered in silence until 1998 when his symptoms became impossible to hide - and he now admits he purposely kept his health battle secret for the sake of his career.

He tells Parade magazine, "I thought, 'Oh my god, are people going to laugh at me if they know I'm sick? Can I still do my work?'"

Shortly after going public, the actor began hiding behind the camera by taking on a number of voice roles like animated movie Stuart Little - but Fox, who now stars in TV show The Good Wife, insists he's finally regained his confidence.

He adds, "People ask me, 'Does it bother you when you shake in front of people?' No. It sometimes bothers me when I can't do what I want, but I don't give a damn how it looks." »

Watch: Meredith Baxter On Coming Out: 'The Best Possible Thing I Could Have Done'

31 March 2012 6:14 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Meredith Baxter, 64, has been an actress for more than 40 years. She is best known as Elyse Keaton -- the flower-child mom of Michael J. Fox's straight-laced Alex Keaton on program "Family Ties," which ran from 1982 to 1989. But baby boomers may remember her in her first sitcom, "Bridget Loves Bernie" on CBS in 1972, and her run on the show "Family" from 1976 to 1980.

What they likely didn't know is that Baxter struggled with alcoholism for years, putting herself and her children in danger. Baxter has been married three times and has five children, and in December 2009, when the tabloids began writing about her relationship with a woman, she came out about as a lesbian in an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show.

In this moving video, Baxter talks about how she conquered alcohol, and why coming out was the best decision she ever made. »

Fox Turned To Alcohol To Cope With Parkinson's Disease

30 March 2012 12:01 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A devastated Michael J. Fox initially turned to alcohol to cope with his Parkinson's disease diagnosis.

The Family Ties star discovered he had the degenerative disorder back in 1991 and confesses he took to the bottle to drown his sorrows.

He tells Parade magazine, "For a time I dealt with it with alcohol, which turned out to be a disaster. I'd always been kind of a partier, but this was the first time I was drinking in order not to feel something. It had a dark purpose."

The actor eventually quit drinking for good and now Fox credits his wife of 23-years, Tracy Pollan, with helping him get sober.

He continues, "About a year after my diagnosis, I woke up one morning and saw (wife) Tracy's face...She said, 'Is this what you want?' Instantly I knew - no, this isn't what I want or who I am. So I quit drinking in '92.

"I recognised I had choices about drinking, and that made me realise I had choices about Parkinson's as well... Acceptance doesn't mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there's got to be a way through it."

Fox has been a longtime Parkinson's disease advocate and in 2000 he founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds research programmes in the hopes of finding a cure. »

Shameless Review: Don't Have to Aim Low

18 March 2012 9:10 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

I was so happy to get the call to fill in and cover this week's episode of Shameless, as "A Great Cause" was a great time full of the brand of dysfunctional behavior fans of the show have come to love.

Having been at each other's throats all season long it was refreshing to see Ian and Lip teamed up again, trying to take down Mandy's father together. What a bizarre but not all that shocking of a twist with the truth behind her baby's father. The aloofness Mandy showed when dismissing her dad's drunken attacks was as sad a scene, though, as we have witnessed.

For all the laughter their crazy lives produce, tonight we were reminded of just how dark a world the Gallaghers and their friends live in.

While certain aspects of the show - such as the aforementioned incest or Monica driving around with Liam sitting »

Shave your Twitter beards and get ready to go back to school because "Community" is finally returning this week (Thurs., Mar. 15, 8 p.m. Et on NBC)!

I was on set while they shot this week's big, romantic episode, "Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts," which features a Boyz II Men-soundtracked proposal, a possible wedding, a potential new business partnership and the return of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, a.k.a. Shirley's (Yvette Nicole Brown) baby daddy and former ex Andre.

Brown, Warner, Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover and Gillian Jacobs teased drunken breakdowns, wedding planning, surprising new sides of certain characters and what Troy and Abed's idea of "normal" actually looks like.

So Andre proposes again? We haven't seen him in quite a while.

Event Report – Teen Wolf Reunion Screening!

22 February 2012 1:39 AM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

There are few things in this world that rival my love of horror cinema, but one of them is most definitely the sub-genre known as the “80′s comedy”. There’s something really special about almost all of the comedies (and hell even the dramas) of that era. Even the not so good ones at the very least had heart. And one film that I hold in the highest possible regard is Rod Daniel’s 1985 feature film debut Teen Wolf starring (at the time) TV sensation Michael J. Fox. Although shot before Back To The Future, the movie didn’t get a proper release until after that flick was huge at the box office. And over the years with the help of the home video market and non-stop HBO airings, the cult following for Teen Wolf only grew larger and larger eventually spawning a sequel, an animated television series (!) and most »
