Cannibal Terror (1980)

BOMB (out of 4)

Spanish-French co-production has a couple bumbling idiots kidnapping the young daughter of a business tycoon. They take the girl into the jungle to come up with their ransom demands but they end up running into some cannibals.

CANNIBAL TERROR is from the studio Eurocine, which was probably the cheapest production studio out there. They were always around to try and rip something off or jump on the bandwagon of something that was popular at the time. Obviously this one here was meant to cash-in on the Italian cannibal genre that was popular in the late 70s and early 80s but this is without question the worst cannibal movie ever made and arguably one of the worst European horror films ever made.

Most awful movies have at least a few entertaining things about them but that's not the case here because this movie is just downright awful from the start and continues to get worse throughout each of its 93 minutes. The movie appears to have been made by people without an inch of talent because there's no logical skills that you can find by watching this film as it really does appear to just be someone moving a camera and making things up as they go along. This "jungle" appears to be someone's back yard and there are a couple shots where cars can be seen in the background.

The cannibals in this film are just poor actors who had to stand around and get Halloween make-up on their face. Even the make-up itself is very poor. Even worse are the special effects, which are downright horrid and only appear towards the end of the film. The budget appears to be a few dollars higher than a Happy Meal and this probably accounts for none of the cast members giving a damn about what they're doing. Everything in this movie is just downright awful but the biggest problem is how dull every second is. CANNIBAL TERROR was once on the "video nasty" list and this is one case where perhaps a film should have been burned.
