Errors in geography

Throughout the film the dialogue implies that it takes place in the Eastern United States. However, when the police chief and mayor are driving and discussing how they love Valentine's Day candies, they pass a building with a Canadian flag on it. In the bar, there are photographs of Cape Breton buildings and a Moosehead Beer neon sign. Moosehead is a brewing company only found in Canada.

Factual errors

When the film cuts to an outside shot of Mable's Laundromat, the graphic reads "Saturday, February 14th". The film is set in 1980, in which February 14th was actually a Thursday.
