King of the Mountain (1981)
Police helicopter pilot: [after Steve's cornered] Good run! Sharp through Sweeper, clean past Deadman's, a little sloppy through Grandstand, but I gotta tell you something, asshole. You are in violation of Section 148 of the Penal Code: Evading arrest. Section 22349 of the Vehicle Code: Maximum speed limit. Section 22350: Basic speed law. Section 23109B: Exhibition of speed.
[the pilot keeps reading violations, but Steve turns his car stereo up to drown it out]
Buddy: [after the Trans Am driver says they only race for money] What did you do?
Steve: I set up a race.
Buddy: Yeah, but for a hundred dollars?
Steve: Trust me....we won't need it!
Buddy: That's all I need to hear!
Cal: Some chick came by looking for you... drives a Citroen.
Steve: What did you tell her?
Cal: What did I tell her?
Cal: I told her you had a small dick!
Cal: How 'bout you man, you wanna race?
Race spectator: I don't even own a car..
Cal: Well have your father buy you one!
Barry Tanner: [speaking to Roger about Buddy's talents] You think he's a songwriter? He's not shit! When *I* record his stuff, then he's somebody.
Barry Tanner: You wanna be a record producer, or be your friends song schlepper? It's up to you, baby!
Cal: That's what this business is about...cars that don't run. Know what's worse than a car that won't run? Pushing a car that won't run!
Cal: No.. holding up a dead body..lifting him up, yeah. Especially if it's yours!
Buddy: I'll run with you.
Cal: [turns and recognizes Buddy] Music maker... organ grinder.
Buddy: Hey, I've heard it all tonight... I'd rather not hear any more.
Cal: You're in over your head, boy.
Buddy: [angrily] Look! I said I'd run... now can you get it together, and tell me if you're in or out? I'm ready!
Steve: [Opening lines, voiceover] 23 miles of Mulholland, slicing Los Angeles like a knife... it's like a trip in time. Sometimes I just can't wait for night. You see too much in the sunshine. Road's changin'... civilization's choking it. At night, the straightaways are shorter... turns sharper... the drop steeper. It's the only place I ever felt safe. Clear, clean... and fast. Freedom. I wonder who it'll be tonight? I hope he's fast.
Police helicopter pilot: [directed at Steve, who's still racing] OK, pull the plug... you're boxed!
[Steve ignores the chopper and keeps going]
Police helicopter pilot: I said shut it down!
[finally, Steve realizes he's trapped and slows to a stop]
Police helicopter pilot: End of the line, pal...
