The man behind the remake of 1982 film Conan The Barbarian has revealed that he would like Arnold Schwarzenegger to play a part in the project. Avi Lerner said he recently asked the California governor about a role in the movie, offering him $$1 million (£675,000) for a one-day cameo. Although the Terminator star did not accept the offer, Lerner said he is still holding out hope. "[Schwarzenegger] said: 'Wait two years for me. I'll be coming back.' But I can't wait that long. Schwarzenegger To Star In Conan Remake?

14 November 2008 8:15 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood producer Avi Lerner has pleaded with Arnold Schwarzenegger to return to the big screen - in a remake of action classic Conan The Barbarian.

The filmmaker has offered the Terminator star the chance of a cameo role in a remake of the 1982 film that shot him to stardom.

But the musclebound actor, who is currently Governor of California, refused to commit to the idea.

Lerner tells, "I told him we could even shoot the scene in Sacramento. He was smiling, but he didn't say yes. Maybe he can't take the money while he's still governor.

"That's Ok, if he can't take the money, I'd donate it to a charity or give it to a school that needs the money... Don't worry - I'll approach him again. I don't give up that easily." »

Fredrik Malmberg, Boaz Davidson, Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner will produce the film. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara) wrote an older version of the screenplay. Djimon Hounsou In Conan Spin-Off

22 July 2008 7:35 AM, PDT | | See recent Screen Rant news »

Robert E. Howard’s estate must be rolling in the cash these days - not only is there a planned Conan movie in the works (but when hasn’t there been a planned Conan movie in the works?), a Red Sonja film in development and a Solomon Kane movie in production, but now there is a film adaptation of Thulsa Doom starring and produced by Djimon Hounsou.

The character of Thulsa Doom was originally played by Darth Vader himself (well his voice at least) James Earl Jones in Conan The Barbarian, the film that put Arnold Schwarzenegger on the movie map.

Doom is a serpent-loving villain who crops up in all of the above mentioned Howard titles (except Kane).

This new film version will however take a different approach and cast him as a tragic hero, before he succumbs to the dark-side (gee it really is like Star Wars).
