Trivia

Rick's truck in the show was a 'Macho Power Wagon,' a series of specialty 4x4 trucks manufactured by Dodge from 1977 through 1981, part of the 'Adult Toys' campaign to appeal to younger buyers. The main truck used in the show was a 1979 model long bed in sierra red with special Macho paint job and decals. Midway through the first season, a second truck was added, a 1980 Dodge long bed 4x4 cloned to look like the '79 Macho. The easiest way to tell the difference between the two trucks is in the roll bar. The '79 Macho roll bar is padded and has perfectly straight diagonal supports. The '80 Macho clone uses an after-market roll bar that isn't padded. Also, the diagonal supports bend horizontally before adjoining the main bar. Shots often alternate between the two trucks in the same scenes. See more »

Goofs

Although the series is set in San Diego, California, it's abundantly clear during many of the outdoor scenes that it was filmed in the Los Angeles metro. In several episodes the San Gabriel Mountains, which are outside of Los Angeles, can be clearly seen in the distance. See more »

Quotes

[Rick & A.J. are trying to talk Town into letting them look at a car in the police impound]
Rick Simon: Town, now this assignment you got, it's probably gonna be very tiring, right? And you could use a rest... well we're gonna be doing a big celebration when this is all over, y'know, we're gonna do a kind of a blow-out weekend over in Vegas... why don't you kinda tag along with us, y'know, we'll comp you to the Robert Goulet show... it'll be great.
Lt. M.P. 'Downtown' Brown: Robert Goulet? If you're gonna bribe me, at least make it ...

One of the best series, ever!
15 June 1999 | by (Palatine, IL) – See all my reviews

I loved this series when it was on in the 80's, and was worried when A&E started showing it again (M-F, 12pm ET) that I'd be disillusioned by the actual quality of the show, as opposed to what I remembered it to be (as I have been for other series I've seen after 15 years).

I wasn't. The chemistry between Jameson Parker (A.J.) and Gerald McRaney (Rick) is still wonderful, the relationship they have developed is very believable, the dialogue is still great. Would that I enjoyed some series from the 90's as much as I love this classic from the 80's!!
