This powerful and starred filled picture Roughnecks hit the movie theaters on July 15 1980 starring Cathy Lee Crosby as Tracy Carter, Sam Melville as O'Dell Hartman, Stephen McHattie as Roy, Steve Forrest as Paul Marshall, Harry Morgan as Plug, and Sarah Rush as Carol. Roy and O'Dell are two oilrig roughnecks who don't know any other kind of life. Therefore, one day after another long hard day on an oilrig, O'Dell and Roy had to bar looking to get drunk. While in the process of filling, there bodies with beer, two beautiful women walk in. So the four end up in a motel where Roy has a great night while O'Dell had a lousy night. The next day the two are sitting on the steps of a trailer, O'Dell in the process of putting on his boots discovers a scorpion in the one. Instead of getting mad and killing it, he decides to stick it down Roy's pants which sends Roy scattering like someone set his pants on fire. While on the job, the rig is hit with fire and explosion that puts both of them in the hospital. Enters Vera Miles who plays the role of Ida McBride. Ida McBride's owns a usage ranch that sits on the Del Rio. Ida is tired of paying high taxes, selling land and trying to make ends meet and keep the ranch functional at the same time. Enters Sarah Rush who plays the role of Ida daughter Carol. Carol has returned home after graduating from college and has come home to help her mom with the oil drilling of the Del Rio. The Del Rio has oil in it and no one has tried to drill for it until now. Enters Steve Forrest who plays the role of Paul Marshall. Paul runs the oil company that has won the right to drill the Del Rio for the oil that runs thru it and the ranch of Ida McBride. Paul is approached in his office by O'Dell tells Paul that he can put together the biggest and best crew ever to drill the oil that sits in the Del Rio. Paul hears him out and thinks that it's a crazy idea buts agrees and gives O'Dell the okay. Therefore, the first person O'Dell goes looking for is his cousin Roy. The last time O'Dell saw his cousin was when they were in the hospital. When Roy left the hospital, he went to work on a dairy farm milking cows. After telling Roy the deal he landed, Roy agrees to help and they go of looking for the next there next crew member. Enters Harry Morgan who plays the role of Plug. Plug is down in Mexico retired with lots of woman, booze and was known as the best oilrig supervisor ever in the business. Enters Rockne Tarkington who plays the role of Lenny. Lenny took over his day farm after he died and raises hogs and makes moonshine whiskey. Lenny's wife begs O'Dell too take Lenny with him because he's getting on her nerves. Enters Andrew Rubin who plays the role of George. George is in a library studying for his PHD. When George tells O'Dell and Roy no, they put him in a burlap bag and kidnap him, taking him out of the library. Therefore, after the entire crew is put together they head for Ida McBride's ranch where they look to put there mark on the Del Rio. Enters the gorgeous Cathy Lee Crosby who plays the role of Tracy Carter. Tracy is a news reporter who has come to do a story on the super crew that's trying to drill through the Del Rio. Plug doesn't want Tracy around but O'Dell does and now Tracy is in the process of getting her story. However, as there are in many different adventures the super crew has there good days and bad days along with the difficulties that come while trying to drill through the Del Rio. The big reason I bought this movie, the gorgeous Cathy Lee Crosby. Cathy was fantastic in this movie as the women reporter trying to get her big story. It's a shame that Cathy didn't get more movie deals like this because she deserves them. However, there was more to this movie then the job that Cathy did. It was beautiful pictures of the ranch and of the site where the movie was filmed. However, I give this movie 10 weasel stars because of the gorgeous Cathy Lee Crosby.
