Although originally aired as a Thanksgiving cartoon, another version of the cartoon appeared. This slightly modified version removed any references to the Thanksgiving holiday, enabling it to be shown at any time of year.
Combines elements from several of L. Frank Baum's sequels to 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.' Notably, 'The Land of Oz' (Jack Pumpkinhead and the powder of life) and 'Ozma of Oz' (Dorothy returning to Oz).
Debuted five years before the feature film Return to Oz (1985), which also combined characters and elements from 'Land of Oz' and 'Ozma of Oz' among other L. Frank Baum Oz books.
Tyrone the Terrible's likeness resembles the Nome King from L. Frank Baum's Ozma of Oz and subsequent appearances, however his method of bringing toy soldiers to life for evil purposes is reminiscent of Urfin Jus, the villain created by Aleksandr Volkov for the Soviet edit of the Oz books.
