Trivia

Walter Hill called the movie a "strange piece";

"Instead of the logical conclusion being at Northfield, it then goes on to another phase of a spiral downward, and ends with Jesse's death. It's very hard material to give the proper dramatic curve to. It doesn't lay out in a classic three-act structure. It's almost a four-act piece with Northfield and the aftermath being the culmination of the third act. The fourth act is almost epilogue: How They Went Down... There's a line from a Jean-Luc Godard film: "The jokes are funny but the bullets are real." That's really what this movie is about. These were big, reckless, high-spirited guys that were unaware of the ripples they caused". See more »

Goofs

The guitarist in the bordello is asked to sing "I'm a good ole rebel". The song was only copyrighted in 1915. Although it is possible that it was known in the period portrayed (early 1870s), it is unlikely that it would be so widely known that the performer would have been able to play it from memory. If so, it would beg the question why the author had not copyrighted. See more »

One of the best westerns made
9 June 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I watched this movie for the first time last night, and I've been completely blown away!!!! When you think about the fact that it was made back in 1980, it was WAY before it's time. The special effects are amazing and so real. The fight scenes are incredible and you don't want to take your eyes off the screen for fear you'll miss something great! And what a brilliant idea to cast all true-life brothers to play these roles. I've grown up watching these actors, and I think that their acting in this movie is the best performance each one has ever had. I'm extremely impressed and can now say that "The Long Riders" is one of my all time favorite movies. I will recommend this movie to anyone and everyone!
