I remember seeing this movie 20 years ago in Grenoble and I remember it as one of the best of its kind.
Like many Slave films it is very symbolic (symbols are a way to escape censorship, Tarkovski new that) and therefore would seem a bit abstruse to many viewers.
Constans ou "La constante" as it was known in France is one of the best of Polish cinema. A slow but remarkably intelligent movie. Quite the opposite of today's big budgets...
