Storyline

Offshore near Caboblanco, Peru, an explorer of sea wrecks is murdered. However, local authorities decide that the official cause of death is "accidental drowning." Among the skeptical is Giff Hoyt, an expatriate American, longtime Caboblanco resident and popular innkeeper. Giff's interest is further piqued when Marie arrives in town. Her passport is confiscated by the corrupt authority, and Giff protests. Furthermore, a Nazi named Beckdorff lives in a well-fortified compound near town, and he might be responsible for the explorer's death. Beckdorff himself seeks sunken treasure in the area, as well as protection from local interference. Can Giff Hoyt stifle the evil Beckdorff, save the lovely Marie, and possibly even locate sunken treasure? Written by veloc <velo_00@yahoo.com>

Trivia

This was not the only movie made around the time of the early 1980s that purported to be a modern reworking of the Hollywood classic, Casablanca (1942). Both Cuba (1979) and Far East (1982) also re-tread the Casablanca storyline. See more »

Quotes

Gunther Beckdorff: I heard you were a simple man, Giff, who came to Caboblanco and found contentment. Why should you care for a girl who had no passport?
Gifford Hoyt: Because she's being held here against her will! Why? Do you have use for her? Then what happens? Does she leave Caboblanco alive?
Gunther Beckdorff: You confound me! You come here, accuse me of attacking a ship and now I want to do harm to some French woman.
Gifford Hoyt: Who said she's French?

User Reviews

A lot of talent, a little interest in this strange Bronson vehicle.
22 November 2000 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Certainly one of the more eccentric of Bronson's starring vehicles, it tries to evoke memories of Casablanca even in its title. Taken apart from that unlikely-to-attain goal, it's fairly interesting, with a few talented cast members to keep it going (though they're not well served by the material). Large chunks of the story are pretty muddled, but as a curiosity piece, it's worth seeking out for Bronson completists.
